Taxation of Real Estate Transactions: A Comparative Study of Selected Mediterranean Jurisdictions

Online guide to the legal and tax framework for foreigners acquiring real estate in Portugal, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lebanon and Montenegro, written by Marin Ljubić who is a Candidate of Postgraduate Doctoral Study at the University of Zagreb, Croatia. The guide was published in 2022 on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School Program at the New York University School of Law. For each jurisdiction the author looks at whether foreigners can purchase real estate, which taxes are applied and gives links to relevant legislation.

The Property Ombudsman

The Property Ombudsman provides an impartial service, approved by the UK government, helping consumers who are renting or selling residential property through an estate or property agent. Its website includes information about the scheme can provide, how to use it and how to join. It also includes an agents' section with an FAQ page for aiding estate agents dealing with complaints. There is a news section containing case studies, annual reports and press releases.

First-tier Tribunal (Property Chamber)

The Property Chamber of the First-tier Tribunal deals with disputes over property and land, including residential property disputes, land registration matters and agricultural land matters. Its pages on the UK Government website give an overview of the Chamber's remit and provide information about resolving residential property and farming tenancy disputes, together with information about applying to the land registration division. Forms, practice directions and databases of cases are also available.

Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors

The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) is a professional and regulatory body for property professionals. The Regulation section of the RICS website provides the Rules of Conduct, information about disciplinary proceedings, guidance for professionals and advice about making a complaint. The RICS 'Red Book', entitled Valuation - Professional Standards, is available in the Knowledge section of the site.

Homes & Communities Agency

The Homes & Communities Agency (HCA) is a non-departmental public body that regulates social housing in England and develops communities by making available housing and business premises. Its website has details of funding for first time buyers and information about business development incentives. There are sections on regulatory work performed by the HCA, land development opportunities, and sustainability with regards to property. The Documents section includes HCA publications, statistics and information about consultations.

LandWise

The LandWise website is hosted by Resource Equity, a non-profit organisation whose aim is to advance women's right to land and resources. The database brings together legal materials, including codes, constitutions and legislation, as well as reports and articles relating to women’s land rights. Content can be searched by keyword and filtered by language, jurisdiction or material type. The full text content can be downloaded or viewed on the original website. A selection of practice guides focusing on land and property rights in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda is also provided.
