IUCN: Governance, Law and Rights

The IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) is a membership network of government and civil society organisations concerned with nature conservation and the environment. This part of the website provides information on the IUCN’s work around equality, diversity and justice. Topics covered include gender equality, indigenous peoples, legal training, national legal systems and global and transboundary frameworks. A range of materials is provided for each subject such as online courses, publications, conferences and links to environmental laws.

UNESCO: Culture

This part of the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) website provides information on the organisation’s cultural initiatives which include safeguarding historic sites, promoting creativity and supporting artistic innovation. There is information on the various international cultural funds supported by UNESCO, other international initiatives, international days and conferences. All conventions on culture are available in full text.

Congress.gov: About Treaty Documents

Part of the US congressional website providing all treaty documents submitted to the US Senate from 1975/76 onwards, together with some older treaties. The material can be searched by treaty document number, topic, key word and other criteria. ICC Forum

Online forum for legal debates regarding issues of international criminal law. The site is used by legal professionals, governments, and scholars. It provides videoed lectures and compilations of information about a range of international criminal law topics, as well as 'Major questions' pages devoted to the thinking of invited experts on key issues. The site may be accessed without an account; however, the user must register for one in order to post on the forum. The forum is run by Dr Richard H. Steinberg of UCLA School of Law.

International Law Behind the Headlines

This is a free legal podcast hosted by ASIL (American Society of International Law). The podcast features legal experts and covers a range of international legal issues. Recent episodes have focused on international obligations regarding climate change, peace treaties and the World Trade Organisation in the second Trump administration. The podcast is available monthly and can be accessed on the ASIL website and via Apple and Soundcloud.

From Words to Deeds: Research Project

Research project which focused on armed non-State actors (ANSAs) and their impact on International Humanitarian Law (IHL). The project’s goals included promoting compliance with IHL regulations and understanding ANSA perspectives. The results of the project are provided on its website, including reports, articles, books, and case studies; the site also gives links to other useful resources.

Queerídico

Blog focusing on Spanish, foreign and international law relating to LGBTI people. Run by human rights consultant Francisco de Asís (‘Curro’) Peña Díaz, the blog was launched in 2020 and is in Spanish.

Treaties

Belgian treaty website, provided by the foreign affairs department of the Federal Public Service. Includes a database of treaty information (date of signature, date in force for Belgium, date of publication in the Journal Officiel, and so on) and details of treaties for which Belgium is the depositary. The site can be navigated in English, German, French or Dutch, but most of the content is in French and Dutch only.

International Treaties

Treaties section of the official Colombian law portal, SUIN-Juriscol. Has two parts: ‘Biblioteca Virtual de Tratados’, a searchable register of treaties involving Colombia, including the date in force and other details; and ‘Leyes Aprobatorias de Tratados’, a set of treaty approval laws from 1873 onwards, many of which include the text of the treaty in question.
