Article giving overview of Shariah law as practiced and observed in the South East Asian (ASEAN) region written by Jeong Chun Phuoc who holds a Ph.D. in Law from the University of Malaya and Wei Yan Ting who is director and partner at Guangxi Justlaw Legal Firm. The article was published in 2024 on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School at the NYU, School of Law. The authors look at how Shariah law applies throughout the ASEAN region focusing on particular aspects including Islamic banking and finance, intellectual property, teaching Islamic education, administration of Muslim Law (covering marriage, divorce, maintenance and custody of children) and how Shariah relates to customary law in ASEAN countries.
