Southeast Asian region countries law

This research guide to the legal systems of the southeast Asian region, consisting of Japan, Korea and the 10 countries that comprise ASEAN, is compiled by the University of Melbourne. For each jurisdiction there are annotated links to sources of legislation, case law, books and journals, and for many jurisdictions there are also links to treaties and the constitution. As this guide is aimed at law students, it also includes a page on citing and referencing resources.

ASEAN Judiciaries Portal

Launched in 2018, the ASEAN Judiciaries Portal (AJP), produced by the Council of ASEAN Chief Justices (CACJ), provides information about the judiciaries and legal environments of the ASEAN member states. On the main site there are pages dedicated to the CACJ activities and training courses offered, as well as a case repository. The portal also includes sections specific to the various member states, including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

The Commonwealth Legal Information Institute (CommonLII) is a cooperative legal information initiative led by AustLII (the Australasian Legal Information Institute) providing access to freely available legal materials from all Commonwealth countries. CommonLII contains over 400 databases providing case law, legislation, treaties and law reform reports from more than 50 Commonwealth and common law countries and territories.

Judiciary of Brunei Darussalam

The website of the Brunei Judiciary provides background information on the structure, aims, mission and history of the courts in Brunei Darussalam. The roles of the Supreme Court, the Subordinate Courts, the Intermediate Courts and the Bankruptcy and Probate Offices are outlined and cause lists provided. Case statistics for the various courts are given along with a page of contact details for law firms based in Brunei. The site can be viewed in English and Malay.

Attorney General's Chambers (Brunei)

Website of the Attorney General of Brunei Darussalam, the principal legal advisor to the government. Provides background information on the role of the Attorney General and a list of all holders of the post back to 1959. Outline information on the divisions of the Attorney General's Chambers dealing with civil law, criminal law and legislative drafting is also given. Selected laws of Brunei are available on the site in PDF format.
