Center for Democracy and Technology

Non-profit organisation based in Washington DC, working to promote democracy in the digital age. The CDT is concerned with issues such as free expression, privacy, surveillance, elections, digital copyright, cryptography and artificial intelligence, in the United States and around the world. Its website provides CDT reports and resources for the general public.

JURIST legal news and research

JURIST is a legal news site edited by Professor Bernard Hibbetts and hosted at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in the United States. The site is produced by staff and students at the law school and is aimed at the legal community with emphasis given to highlighting the latest legal developments, judicial decisions and primary source materials. There are sections focusing on United States, world news and an archive of news stories going back to 2003.

Kozolchyk National Law Center

Non-profit research and legal reform organisation, formerly known as the National Law Center for Inter-American Free Trade. NatLaw was founded by Boris Kokzolchyk, Evo DeConcini Professor Emeritus of Law at the University of Arizona. It carries out research into commercial laws and practices of different countries in order to harmonise and standardise the legal infrastructure and eliminate trade barriers. The Resources page includes a link to a subscription-based database of Latin American legislation, cases and commentary, in Spanish.

Environmental Defense Fund

The Environmental Defense Fund is an American non-profit organisation which uses science, economics and law to tackle threats to the environment and sustainability in the United States, Europe and elsewhere. Its website gives an overview of its work and provides its publications, which include reports, guides, interactive maps and tools intended for governments, corporations and the public.

Commission for Environmental Co-operation

The Commission for Environmental Co-operation (CEC) is an international organisation created by Canada, Mexico and the United States under the North American Agreement on Environmental Co-operation (NAAEC), in order to address regional environmental concerns. The website provides general information about the Commission and its projects. The Publications and Information section includes detailed summaries of the environmental laws of Canada, Mexico and the US.

Refugees and Asylum

Page of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service website providing information about applying for asylum / refugee status. There is a link to other immigration information, including guidance for aliens who are abused spouses, parents or children of American citizens or lawful permanent residents of the US.

Special Libraries Association Legal Division

Website of the Legal Division of the Special Libraries Association (SLA) an international organisation based in Washington DC representing special librarians and information professionals in over 70 countries. The Legal Division was founded in 1993 and acts as a forum for librarians working in law firms, businesses and government libraries. The website gives contact details for the executive and advisory board of the Legal Division, their marketing leaflet (available in PDF) and the Legal Division Manual (in HTML).

Mediate.com

US-based company providing information and services concerned with mediation and conflict resolution, including online mediation. The site provides articles and videos about mediation, as well as a searchable directory of mediators. It also hosts the Mediate University, which provides paid-for training courses.

ABA Section of Family Law

Website for the American Bar Association Family Law Section which was formed in 1958 to improve the administration of justice in family law and to "serve as the national leader in the field of marital and family law". Membership is drawn from family law practitioners and law students. The Family Law Section deals with legal issues such as divorce, custody, adoption, paternity, child abduction and mediation. There are sections aimed at members, students and the general public.
