Website of National Legal Aid (NLA) the organisation representing the state Legal Aid Commissions in Australia. The stated aim of the NLA is to "promote leadership and management of a national system of legal aid through the coordinated efforts of Commissions by sharing resources, knowledge and systems which enhance best practice and value for money in the delivery of legal aid to clients across eight States and Territories". The independent Legal Aid Commissions provide access to legal information, advice and representation for people in their states or territories who are unable to afford the services of a private lawyer. The NLA site gives access to contact details and websites of each of the Legal Aid Commissions. There are policy papers, best practice guidelines and NLA submissions to government on legal aid issues along with a copy of the strategic plan.
