The Comparative Research Programme on Poverty (CROP) is an international NGO initiated by the International Social Science Council (ISSC). The focus of the CROP program is not limited to studies of poverty and the poor. The behaviour of the non-poor and the non-poor institutions influencing different phenomena related to poverty are central to the understanding of poverty. The objectives for CROP are to: consider how the social sciences can better contribute to the understanding of poverty in a global context; establish an international scientific network which will give impetus to a long-term research program; secure and generate high quality data of importance for different social science approaches to the comparative study of poverty; compare the different theoretical approaches so as to understand better their links and relationships; consider how scholars working within different paradigms can develop a joint arena for multi-paradigmatic poverty research. Details are also given of CROP workshops, publications in PDF format, research projects and newsletter.
