Acts Online - the Online South African Hypertext Legislation Series

A web database of South African legislation, including the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa. The site is provided free of charge, and developed by two South African companies, FNB and Guarantee Trust Hypertext Systems. The service presents South African Acts of Parliament with amendments, schedules and regulations, updated whenever an amendment is promulgated in the Government Gazette.

South African Law Reform Commission

Website for the South African Law Reform Commission (SALRC) which was established in 1973 to carry out research relating to the law of the Republic of South Africa and to make recommendations for development, improvement, modernisation or reform. A list of current members is published on the site. Projects from the Commission's active programme of work are listed with supporting documents such as media releases, discussion papers, issue papers and reports.

Potchefstroom Electronic Law Journal

An electronic refereed law journal published by the Faculty of Law at North-West University in South Africa. Articles by legal scholars focus on constitutional and development law in South Africa and may be written in Afrikaans, German, English or Dutch. The site presents the current volume and a collection of earlier issues from volume 1 (1998) onwards. Recent articles have examined the enforcement of socio-economic rights in South Africa, matrimonial property regimes and the effect of globalisation on the development of constitutionalism in South Africa.

Commonwealth Legal Information Institute

The Commonwealth Legal Information Institute (CommonLII) is a cooperative legal information initiative led by AustLII (the Australasian Legal Information Institute) providing access to freely available legal materials from all Commonwealth countries. CommonLII contains over 400 databases providing case law, legislation, treaties and law reform reports from more than 50 Commonwealth and common law countries and territories.

Constitutional Court of South Africa

Official website of the Constitutional Court of South Africa. It provides information on the history of the Court and the Constitution, together with the text of the Constitution itself in English and the other official languages of South Africa. There is a database of Constitutional Court judgments, orders, heads of argument, pleadings and other documents.The site also has information on human rights in South Africa, including a copy of the Bill of Rights. The library section of the site includes an online catalogue and links to other South African and international legal sites.

International Center for Transitional Justice

The International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) is an organisation working with countries where there have been mass atrocities or abuses of human rights. The site outlines the Center's research, training and legal and policy analysis and makes available its reports, briefings and other publications. The organisation has initiatives in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.The site is in English, Spanish, French and Arabic.

Law Reform Project

This WorldLII project aims to make searchable from one location all of the Law Reform databases available on WorldLII (World Legal Information Institute). The Law Reform Database currently includes publications from the Law Commissions of Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Ireland, Scotland, South Africa and England and Wales. It is possible to search the full-text or just title words of publications included. It is also possible to browse publications from each Law Commission individually.

High Court of the Republic of South Africa- Eastern Cape Division

This SAFLII database provides full text access to judgments of the High Courts of the Eastern Cape in South Africa. Decisions are available from 1996 onwards to date and can be searched or browsed alphabetically by party name or chronologically by year. The Southern African Legal Information Institute (SAFLII) is a collaborative project of the Wits Law School in South Africa and the Australasian Legal Information Institute (AustLII) providing free South African legal information.

Supreme Court of Appeal of South Africa

Official website of the Supreme Court of Appeal of South Africa. The site gives background and historical information about the court including brief details of judges and a collection of speeches delivered by the Chief Justice. Full text judgements of the Court are available online back to 1999. These can be browsed by date or name. The Court's bulletin gives information on judgements reserved, cases enrolled for hearing and appeals disposed of without written reasons.The Court roll, practice directions and a page of related web links are also provided.
