Equality Commission for Northern Ireland

The Equality Commission for Northern Ireland is an independent public body. They have three main duties: to work towards the elimination of sex discrimination; to promote equality of opportunity between women and men; and to keep the legislation under review. This is the only government appointed body in Northern Ireland with statutory power to enforce the Sex Discrimination (Northern Ireland) Order 1976 and the Equal Pay Act (Northern Ireland) 1970 as amended.

Statewatch database

Statewatch is a non-profit voluntary organisation which monitors the state and civil liberties in the UK and the rest of Europe. The Statewatch Database contains more than 25,000 records, including news, features, pamphlets, reports, legislation, EU resolutions and agreements, details of UK parliamentary debates and those of the European Parliament and reports on European Court of Human Rights cases. Material less than 6 months old can be accessed free of charge; older materials require a subscription.

Northern Ireland Social Security and Child Support Commissioners' Decisions

A BAILII database containing decisions of the Northern Ireland Social Security and Child Support Commissioners'. These are members of the judiciary who hear appeals on points of law relating to benefits and child support from Appeal Tribunals under the Social Security and Child Support legislation.The database contains decisions from 1988 onwards to date. Cases are arranged chronologically by year and using the Commissioners' own numbering system which is explained on the site. Industrial Tribunals and Fair Employment Tribunal

Official Website of the Northern Ireland Industrial Tribunals and Fair Employment Tribunal. These are independent judicial bodies that deal with complaints brought under various employment protection legislation. The site provides a selection of FAQs with information on applying to a tribunal and covering issues such as what the hearing involves, representation and expenses. There is also information on the types of complaints that are heard by the tribunals and application forms which can be downloaded from the site.

International Center for Transitional Justice

The International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) is an organisation working with countries where there have been mass atrocities or abuses of human rights. The site outlines the Center's research, training and legal and policy analysis and makes available its reports, briefings and other publications. The organisation has initiatives in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.The site is in English, Spanish, French and Arabic.

Transitional Justice Institute

Website of the Transitional Justice Institute, a research centre based at the University of Ulster. Transitional justice is defined on the site as being the "interim legal arrangements which come to the fore as states enter into transition from violent conflict to peace and democracy". Profiles are given of staff at the Institute along with details of their publications and links to full-text articles where available. Details are given of forthcoming events and research projects taking place at the Institute. A Peace Agreements Database is made freely available to browse or search.
