Law Commission of India

The Law Commission of India is a government body concerned with law reform and the review and repeal of obsolete laws. Its website includes an outline of the Commission's work and the full text of all its reports. A short analysis is given of how the Commission's work and recommendations are followed up and implemented by the Indian Government.

Supreme Court of India

Website for the Supreme Court of India, providing background information on the history, constitution and jurisdiction of the Court. Court rules of the court are available on the site, along with profiles of the Chief Justice and the judges of the Supreme Court. There are links to the Indian Courts, full-text judgments, cause lists and the Indian Code.

Helplinelaw

Helplinelaw is a gateway site to Indian legal information provided by a 'virtual' law firm with associates in India and other countries. Full text Indian laws are made freely available on the site arranged alphabetically and by legal subject covering banking, environmental, criminal, immigration, employment, consumer and property law. There is also a directory of Indian lawyers and selected information for other jurisdictions.

Indian Legislation

A LIIofIndia database containing Indian acts from 1836 to date. Acts can be browsed alphabetically and by date. The information can also be viewed using the system's comprehensive search facility or act name search. Full text acts are presented in HTML. The information is based on the India Code Information System (INCODIS) and provided by the National Informatics Centre at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. The Legal Information Institute of India(LIIofIndia) is a collaborative service providing free access to primary legal materials from India.

Manupatra

Manupatra is a subscription database providing Indian legal and business information. The database includes full-text judgments available back to 1950 from 22 Courts including the Supreme Court and High Courts of India. There are orders of Tribunals and selected judgements from the English courts and the US Supreme Court. The site also has Indian laws, notifications, circulars and forms. A selection of modules provide legislation, case law, reports, articles and forms on subjects such as intellectual property, taxation, arbitration, corporate laws, human rights and the environment.

Bombay Bar Association

Website of the Bombay Bar Association (BBA) which represents lawyers on the original side (as opposed to the appellate side) of the Bombay High Court. The site provides information about the BBA and about the Bombay High Court including daily cause lists (case schedules), notices and a list of sitting judges. There is background information to the legal system in India and links to other legal websites including Indian courts, judgements and statutes. Parts of this site are still under development.

India Code

Free web database containing the text of the acts of the Parliament for India from 1834 to date. The site also features lists of central acts, updated acts and a chronological status table for acts. The database may be searched by short title, year, act number, or keyword. Guidance on searching and the legislative drafting process are provided. The website also includes links to the Constitution of India, court websites and government departments.

Guide to Indian laws

A resource guide focusing on Indian laws and the legal system in India written by V. Ramakrishnan, an experienced lawyer practising in Chennai, South India. The guide is published on the Globalex website and is made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School Program at the New York University School of Law. The author provides guidance on locating information and documentation about Indian laws with links to web resources and bibliographic details for standard books and commentaries on selected topics.

Rajya Sabha

Official website of the Rajya Sabha (Council of States) which is one of the Indian Houses of Parliament. Rajya Sabha is the Upper House of Parliament and its members are not elected directly by the Indian people but by the Legislative Assemblies of the various states. The site has background information on the role and composition of Rajya Sabha, organisational information and profiles of members. Details of parliamentary business are provided in bulletins, journals and synopses of debates.
