CRIN: Child Rights International Network

CRIN is a UK-based non-profit organisation engaged in research, policy and advocacy in the field of children’s rights. Its work ifocuses on the provisions of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). The Library section of the CRIN website includes a collection of UN documentation, a legal database and information about rights organisations. The legal database contains case summaries, national legislation, constitutions, treaties, standards, resolutions and other material on the subject of children’s rights; it is searchable by CRC article number, country and other criteria.

Scottish Courts and Tribunals: Judgments

This page of the Scottish Courts and Tribunals website provides access to judgements of the Scottish courts. The fifty most recent judgements from the following courts can be browsed in full: High Court, Court of Session, Fatal Accident Inquiries, Sheriff Court, Sheriff Appeal Courts (Criminal and Civil) and the Scotland Personal Injury Court. Judgements can also be searched by keyword or using an advanced search option.

Gherson Blog

Blog compiled by staff at London based law firm, Gherson. This law firm specialises in UK immigration, nationality, extradition and human rights law. The blog provides news and updates in these legal areas along with sections focusing on Brexit and business immigration. Posts are available back to 2012.

Law Brief Publishing

Website of Law Brief Publishing a legal publishing company founded in 2006. The site gives details of Law Brief publications which include practical guides for lawyers. Free samples and chapters from some of the books are provided on the site. The company publish PI Brief Update Law Journal, a monthly online subscription publication offering case law, news items and articles on personal injury law. There is also a free newsletter giving updates on recent cases in all the major areas of law. You are required to register on the site to receive this publication.

Welsh Revenue Authority

Website of the Welsh Revenue Authority (WRA) the government body set up in 2018 to administer and collect the new Welsh devolved taxes- the Land Transaction Tax (LTT) and the Landfill Disposals Tax (LDT). From April 2018 the LTT replaces the UK Stamp Duty Land Tax in Wales and is payable when someone buys or leases a building or land over a certain price. The site has a LTT calculator to calculate the amount of tax to pay for Welsh transactions completed on or after 1 April 2018. LTT returns can also be filed on the site and landfill operators and other organisations can register for LDT.

International Law Blog

This blog has been compiled by a group of legal scholars, a number of whom are based at Middlesex University in London. The blog aims to provide “students, junior lawyers and scholars at different stages of their professional and academic careers with a platform to discuss issues related to international, transnational, European and comparative law”. Subject categories include international criminal law, human rights, EU law and public international law and posts date back to September 2014. Many of the posts are written as journal articles and include references.

Judicial System of England and Wales

Online guide to the Judicial System of England and Wales produced by the International Team of the Judicial Office. The guide is aimed at foreign visitors with an interest in the judiciary and legal system.
There are sections explaining the court system, the justice system, the role of judges in England and Wales. There is also information on organisations such as the Ministry of Justice and the Crown Prosecution Service. The guide can be downloaded in full in PDF.

Legal Services Agency

Website of the Legal Services Agency (LSA) a Law Centre and Charity based in Scotland. The organisation provides legal advice and representation for disadvantaged people focusing on issues such as mental illness, poverty, debt, homelessness, women and young people. There is information on the law in Scotland relating to these topics and a number of publications that are free to download from the site. Details are also given of seminars and legal education events held at the LSA.

UK Web Archive

The UK Web Archive aims to give permanent online access to key UK websites for future generations by preserving ‘snapshots’ of websites over time. The project is jointly provided by the British Library in partnership with the National Library of Wales, JISC and the Wellcome Library. It is possible to search the archive or to browse by category. The category titled ‘Government, Law and Politics’ includes the sub-categories ‘Law and Legal System’ and ‘Crime, Criminology, Police and Prisons.’
