Swiss Institute of Comparative Law

The Swiss Institute of Comparative Law (Institut suisse de droit comparé, or ISDC) was established in Lausanne in 1982. Its primary task is to prepare legal opinions in respect of foreign law for the Federal authorities, courts, lawyers and other individuals. It also produces studies in comparative law, holds colloquia and carries out research projects. The Institute has an extensive law library, whose catalogue is available via the website. A set of legal links for countries from Afghanistan to Zambia is available on the Law Online page, annotated in English.

DEPOLIB - Depository Libraries of the United Nations System

This database provides a worldwide list of libraries which are depositories of official documents from the United Nations and organisations within the UN system including: the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), International Civil Aviation Organization; International Labor Organization, UNESCO and the World Bank. Each entry contains contact addresses, telephone numbers and links to websites where appropriate. The site can be searched or browsed, for example by country.

Labordoc

Labordoc is a searchable database which contains more than 360,000 records relating to the International Labour Organization (ILO) and other labour organisations, since 1919. Its coverage is very wide and includes materials relating to socio-economic development - especially work-related human rights issues. There is a strong focus on empirical literature, although some material on labour economics, gender economics and welfare economics is included. Much of the collection focuses on developing and transition countries. There are direct links to online texts from over 12,000 publications.

Constitution of Angola

This site contains the full text of the Angolan Constitution, as adopted by the People's Republic of Angola in August 1992. The document is provided by International Constitutional Law (ICL) at the University of Bern in Switzerland. The Constitution covers the nature of the executive and judiciary functions of government in Angola, the relationship between the individual and the state and the rights and duties of citizens.

UN-I-QUE (United Nations Info Quest)

UN-I-QUE is a database created by the Dag Hammarskjold Library with which you can look up the document number of a UN official document or sales publication. It covers documents from 1946 to 2014 (it is no longer updated), including annual reports from UN committees and commissions, UN monograph series, UN journals and reports of conferences. The database can be searched by key word to find the title and document number of a document.

United Nations Documentation: a research guide

This site contains the full-text of a guide which was prepared by the United Nations Dag Hammarskjold Library and aims to provide an overview to the type of documents produced by the United Nations and how to trace them. It details the main types of documents issued by the General Assembly, the Security Council and the Economic and Social Council including resolutions, speeches, reports and press releases. It then describes the basic indexes which should be used to find particular types of material issued by the UN and its main bodies.

International Constitutional Law

International Constitutional Law (ICL) provides English translations of constitutional documents from many countries of the world. Documents are cross-referenced to enable comparison of constitutional provisions. The site is edited by Professor Axel Tschentscher, LL.M of the University of Bern in Switzerland and details are given of other contributors. The site provides online constitutions, background and historical information for a number of countries along with more limited information other countries.

United Nations Security Council

The United Nations Security Council has responsibility under the UN Charter for maintaining international security and peace by taking military actions against aggressors and applying sanctions. Its website provides information on the functions of the Security Council, including its rules of procedure, and role within the UN as a whole. It also includes a list of current members and the full-text of a large number of its documents.

United Nations Economic and Social Council (UNECOSOC)

The Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (UNECOSOC) is an organ of the UN which aims to promote higher living standards and find solutions to international economic and social problems. Its website contains a description of the role of the body within the wider organisation of the United Nations, its current activities and members. It also contains the full-text of all its official resolutions since 1982 and all sessional documents from 1994 onwards. The latter include details of welfare programmes and economic surveys of particular areas of the world.

International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia - (ICTY)

The ICTY was established by a United Nations Security Council Resolution in May 1993 to prosecute persons responsible for violations of international humanitarian law committed in the territory of the former Yugoslavia since 1991. Its website contains legal documents relating to the operation of the Tribunal including the rules of procedure and regulations of conduct. It also contains details of all the cases tried by the tribunal, including the full-text of the initial indictments, data on the progress of the case and some transcripts.
