The Bookshelf

A database of Philippine primary legislation, cases and reference material, compiled by the Supreme Court of the Philippines. Covers Supreme Court cases, laws, executive issuances, references and treaties. The Supreme Court cases section of the Bookshelf encompasses decisions and signed resolutions back to 1996 only, but cases are available back to 1901 using the search facility (E-Library Search). The Laws section covers acts, constitutions, presidential decrees and other legislative material from 1900 to the present.

Browsable link collections include materials relating to the Courts, Education, Government, Law Journals, Lawyers, Legislation, Other Indexes, Parliament and Treaties and International Agreements. Specific subject sections are also provided dealing with Accounting and Auditing, Foreign Investment, Insolvency and Bankruptcy, Intellectual Property, Poverty Reduction, Privatisation, Secured Transactions and Telecommunications.

Philippine Supreme Court Decisions Online

This website presents selected Philippines Supreme Court decisions, in full-text HTML format. The information is sponsored by Chan Robles Law Net, provided by the Chan Robles Law firm in the Philippines. Featured decisions can be selected by year (annually from 1901 to 2006) and displayed in full. There is also background information on the Philippine legal system, information on the various courts, Supreme Court circulars and orders and court rules.

Chan Robles Virtual Law Library

Online law library compiled by Chan Robles, a law firm in the Philippines. Provides Philippines legislation, decisions of the Philippines Supreme Court (1901 onwards), treaties involving the Philippines and several versions of the Constitution of the Philippines. Many of the documents are in html format and do not seem to be official texts. The site also has links to educational, professional and reference resources worldwide. The site is in English.

Lawphil

Lawphil is a project of the Arellano Law Foundation in the Philippines. The project aims to make available online all Philippine laws, statutes, case law, presidential decrees and other legal materials. The site currently provides selected Philippine legislation from 1900 onwards some in full text and includes full text copies of the 1987, 1973, 1935 and 1899 Malolos Constitutions. Full text legal decisions are given from 1910 onwards and can be browsed by year or searched using the site's search engine.

Philippine Legal Research

Online guide looking at the legal system and legal research in the Philippines written by Milagros Santos-Ong who is Director of Library Services for the Supreme Court of the Philippines. The guide was published in 2005 (and updated in 2009) on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School Program at the New York University School of Law. There is background and historical information on the Philippines including politics, government structure and the legislative, judicial and court systems.

Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines

This site contains a number of different Constitutions of the Republic of the Philippines, including those dating from 1899, 1935, 1973 and 1987 (the current Constitution). The Constitution sets out the national territory of the Republic and the roles and powers of its branches of executive, legislative and judicial government. It also includes a bill of rights, detailing the individual rights of the citizen. The information is provided by Chanrobles Lawnet.

Supreme Court of the Philippines

Official website of the Philippines Supreme Court. The site provides a history of the Supreme Court and a presentation outlining the Philippine judiciary and court system. Decisions of the court from the last 12 months are available on the site, with a link to the Supreme Court e-Library for older judgments (back to 1996). The Court's monthly newsletter, Benchmark, is available, along with annual reports, court rules, circulars and orders and information on bar exams and examinees.

Legal system in the Philippines

Chapter from "ASEAN Legal Systems", by the ASEAN Law Association. Provides a historical overview of the legal system of the Philippines and covers sources of law, the governmental system, criminal and civil procedure, the legal profession and legal education. There are also sections dealing with Philippines contract law, tort law, investments law, intellectual property law, alternative dispute resolution and environmental law. Other chapters currently available online describe the legal systems in Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and Vietnam.

Asian Legal Information Institute

The Asian Legal Information Institute (AsianLII) website provides free access to legal materials from all 28 countries and territories in Asia, as well as the regional organisations, APEC, ASEAN and SAARC. It includes legislation, case law, law reform reports, treaties, a few law journals and other legal material, along with links to other law sites. The content can be searched or browsed; searches can be limited to one country, or extended to all countries.
