Data Protection Register

The Data Protection Register is available on the Information Commissioner’s website. The register contains the name and address of organisations that process personal information along with a general description of the kind of processing they do. The register is searchable by organisation name, registration number, address or postcode.

European Commission: Data Protection

This part of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Justice website deals with data protection in the European Union. There is a guide to download outlining EU citizens’ rights regarding data protection and information relating to Directive 95/46/EC (the data protection Directive). The site also has EU legislation and case law, links to national legislation and to data protection regulatory bodies in EU and EFTA member states.

Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC)

The website of the Swiss Data Protection Commissioner, in German, French, Italian or English. The English version includes basic information on data protection in Switzerland, an information sheet on unsolicited emails, selected Council of Europe texts, extracts from the Commissioner's annual report, and recent press releases. The full text of the Federal Law on Data Protection of 1992 is included. The German version contains all of these, as well as some recommendations of the Commissioner.

Information Commissioner's Office

The UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) enforces the Data Protection Act 1998 and is also responsible for freedom of information. The main functions of the ICO are the promotion of good information handling and the encouragement of best practice in the processing of personal data. The site offers guidance to the Data Protection Act and the Freedom of Information Act with information on specific topics including medical records, CCTV, junk mail and social networking.

Irish Information Commissioner's Decisions

A BAILII database containing full-text decisions of the Irish Information Commissioner from 1998 onwards. The information has been made available by the Office of the Information Commissioner in Dublin. Cases can be browsed alphabetically by party name or chronologically by year or searched using BAILII's comprehensive search facility. The British and Irish Legal Information Institute (BAILII) is a collaborative service aiming to provide public access to primary legal materials for the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland.

International Privacy Law Library

This WorldLII project aims to make searchable from one location all of the databases specialising in Privacy and freedom of information (FOI) law available on WorldLII. Databases currently included are taken from CanLII (the Canadian Legal Information Institute), AustLII (the Australasian Legal Information Institute) and BAILII (the British and Irish Legal Information Institute). Material is also included from the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC).

Australian Privacy and Surveillance Law Library

The Australian Privacy and Surveillance Law Library is an AustLII project providing access to a searchable collection of Australian legal materials specialising in privacy and surveillance law. The Library has been developed in conjunction with the interpreting Privacy Principles (iPP) Project which is based at theCyberspace Law & Policy Centre at the University of New South Wales. There are databases containing case law, legislation, law journals and law reform publications as well as links to external related resources.

Guide to the legal issues surrounding passenger data by Irfan Tukdi, updated by Sabrina Sondhi, Director of the H. Laddie Montague, Jr. Law Library at Penn State Dickinson Law. Published on New York University's Globalex website, it gives background information to the US anti-terrorism legislation passed following the 9/11 terror attacks, including the Patriot Act, the Air Transportation Safety and System Stabilization Act (ATSSSA) and the Aviation and Transportation Security Act (ATSA).
