The Virtuelle Fachbibliothek Recht (Virtual Law Library) is a portal to high-quality legal resources on the internet, with an emphasis on German legal information. It forms part of the Special Law Collection at the Berlin State Library - Prussian Cultural Heritage in Germany. The portal is arranged into eight sections. The Subject Information Gateway provides access to resources relevant to academic legal research and can be searched by keyword or browsed by subject. The portal gives access to the Online Catalogue of South Western Academic Libraries Cooperative and the Online Catalogue of the Common Library Network of the federal state authority Northrhine-Westfalia providing author and title search options for law journal articles. Users can search full text legal materials including working papers, articles and lectures and can also search the online catalogue of the Special Law Collection at the Berlin State Library. There is subject and keyword searching for over 300 free and subscription databases and 150 online bibliographies can be searched by subject, country or resource type. The law section of the Zeitschriftendatenbank (a union catalogue of serials) can also be searched on the site and there is a metasearch engine enabling users to search across 28 other databases and catalogues including the Library of Congress, COPAC and Intute. Catalogue records include subject headings, abstracts, language information, resource type and a link to the resource. The Virtual Law Library can be viewed in German or English but many of the resources linked to are in German.
