Anglo-American Legal Tradition

Description:

The Anglo-American Legal Tradition (AALT) website is a project of O' Quinn Law Library at the University of Houston. It provides digitised versions of legal documents of medieval and early modern England, from the UK National Archives. The documents have been categorised under the following headings: the first legal system 1176-1348; the second legal system; 1348-1529, the third legal system 1529-1649; and the fourth legal system, Commonwealth to George III. They include court rolls, Chancery orders and decrees and itinerant justices' rolls. The site includes articles by Professor Robert C. Palmer on legal tradition and legal systems, providing background and commentary to the collection and highlighting key themes of each period. There is also citation and palaeography guidance and a selection of documents (English and Latin), has been transcribed to assist with reading.
