Centre for Legal Resources

Website of the Centre for Legal Resources (CRL) in Romania. The CRL is a non-governmental, non-profit organization established in 1998 by the Open Society Foundation and concerned with the defence of human rights and the rule of law. The CRL operates programmes in the following areas: anti-discrimination; public integrity; advocate for dignity and strategic litigation. Programmes are delivered through project work and the site gives details of these along with information on the legal cases the CRL is involved with, monitoring reports and news.

Asylum Information Database

The Asylum Information Database (AIDA) is compiled by the European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE) and contains information on asylum issues in 20 countries (17 EU countries and 3 non-EU countries). There are country reports detailing asylum procedures, reception conditions and detention of asylum seekers in countries covered by the database. There are also comparative reports which analyse practice relating to the implementation of asylum standards in these countries and AIDA Legal Briefings which address key issues in EU asylum law and policy.

Press for Change

Press for Change is a lobbying and legal support group for transgender people in the UK. The site provides guidance to key legislation including the Equalities Act 2010 and the Gender Recognition Act 2004. There is also information on issues such as pension rights and employment case law. Other parts of the site offer guidance on health issues and hate crime and provide links to research and to other organisations concerned with transgender issues.

Zimbabwe Women Lawyers Association

The Zimbabwe Women Lawyers Association (ZWLA) is a non-profit making organisation which champions the rights of women and children. The Association provides free legal aid, legal education and advocacy and is “working towards creating frameworks that allow for an environment where women and children’s rights are enjoyed and protected.” The site gives information on the ZWLA and its personnel and provides a selection of articles and conference bulletins which can be freely downloaded.

USIP in Haiti

This web page provides information on the work being carried out by the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) in Haiti. The USIP is an independent organisation whose aim is to “increase the nation's capacity to manage international conflict without violence”. USIP provides conflict resolution training and assistance with legal reform. This section of the USIP website has information on the organisation’s work in Haiti including reports, articles and factsheets. Topics covered in the publications include provision of justice, peacebuilding and the rule of law.

Motor Insurers’ Bureau

The Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) is a non-profit-making company that compensates victims of uninsured and untraced drivers in the UK. Its website makes available the agreements between the MIB and the Department of Transport regarding these compensation claims. It also provides a database of car insurance data, the Motor Insurance Database. Forms, guidance, news and other resources are also available.

The Constitution Society

The Constitution Society is an independent foundation, run by academic and practising lawyers, which seeks to encourage debate between academics, legislators, academics and the public about proposed constitutional reforms. It also provides administrative and clerical support for the All-Party Parliamentary Group on the British Constitution (APPG). The Society’s website makes available its published papers, together with a collection of video interviews on constitutional matters with policy-makers and academics. The site also gives details of Constitution Society events.

AIRE Centre

Website of the AIRE Centre, an organisation providing information on and promoting awareness of European law rights. The charity takes cases to the European Court of Human Rights, provides legal advice to individuals and voluntary sector lawyers and advisors. The site describes the work undertaken in the areas of human trafficking, family law, prisoners’ rights, discrimination, international protection and fair trial. A selection of publications by AIRE is made freely available to download from the site.

US International Grantmaking

United States international Grantmaking (USIG) is a not-for-profit joint project of the Council on Foundations and the International Center for Not-For-Profit Law. The purpose of its website is to give guidance and information, but not legal advice, to potential grantmakers. The site provides a survey of relevant laws for a wide selection of jurisdictions. For each country, the survey focuses on nonprofit organisations, tax laws, legal forms and other relevant legislation, combined with specific local legal issues eg. political activities or legislation against discrimination.
