Guide to Qatar's legal system

Online guide to the law and legal materials of Qatar written by Dr Ahmed Khedr. Published on New York University's Globalex website and updated periodically (most recently in 2025), it gives an introduction to and general history of Qatar and an outline of the legal system, which is based on Sharia (Islamic) law. There are sections covering the Constitution, the hereditary system of government and how laws are made. The author also covers the status and functions of the Amir, the Council of Ministers, the Advisory Council (Al-Shoura Council) and the judiciary and court system.

Luxembourg: description of the legal system and legal research

Online guide providing an introduction to Luxembourg law written by Nicolas Henckes who is the Director of Legitech a Luxembourg legal publisher. The guide was published in 2009 (and updated in 2020 by Laurence Raphael) on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School Program at the New York University School of Law. The author gives an introduction to the history and legal system of Luxembourg outlining the executive and legislative powers and the court system.

ASIL Electronic Resource Guide: International Humanitarian Law

Online guide to international humanitarian law (IHL), by Joan Policastri, Foreign and International Legal Research Specialist at the University of Denver, and Sergio Stone, Foreign, Comparative and International Law Librarian at Stanford Law School. Last updated in 2013, the guide is part of ASIL's Guide to Electronic Resources for International Law. It covers basic materials and concepts of IHL and gives links to websites providing treaties, customary law, judgments of international tribunals and domestic courts, and state practice.

ASIL Electronic Resource Guide: European Union

Online guide focusing on electronic resources for researching the law of the European Union, by Marylin Johnson Raisch (Associate Law Librarian for International and Foreign Law at the John Wolff International and Comparative Law Library of the Georgetown Law Center in the United States). Last updated in 2014, it is part of ASIL's Guide to Electronic Resources for International law. It gives an overview of the treaties establishing the European Union, the Europa website, finding EU legislation and the legislative process.

Disability Studies Resources Guide: Disability Rights & Policy

Resource guide for disability rights and policy on the website of Syracuse University. The guide is arranged into broad sections providing access to policy websites, United Nations documents and United States organisations and government bodies. Direct links are given to the Americans with Disabilities Act 1990 and to related disabilities laws and regulations.

Researching Islamic law: Malaysian sources

Online guide to Islamic law in Malaysia, by Shaikh Mohamed Noordin, a law librarian based in Kuala Lumpur. The guide was published in 2009 (and updated in 2021) on New York University's Globalex website. It covers the establishment of Islamic law in Malaysia and the Islamic law tradition. There is a section on sources of Islamic law and examples of Malaysian legislation, focusing on Islamic family law, procedural law, criminal law and financial law.

Legal Blawg Archive

The Legal Blawg Archive has been compiled by the Law Library of Congress since 2007. It consists of selected law blogs by universities, research institutes and think tanks based in the US and elsewhere. The collection can be browsed by area of law, country of origin and other criteria, and there is a search facility.

International Institute of Humanitarian Law

The International Institute of Humanitarian Law is an independent not-for-profit organisation based in Italy. It conducts research, holds conferences and meetings, and trains civil and military personnel on international humanitarian law (IHL), human rights, refugee law and migration law. The site has background information on the history and principles of international humanitarian law and the right to humanitarian assistance, along with materials from events hosted by the Institute. It also provides an online library of publications on general and specific aspects of IHL.

Panopticon

The Panopticon blog is maintained by barristers at 11KBW in London. It monitors developments taking place in information law. The site has a section explaining what information law covers, including areas such as "data protection, freedom of information, the protection of private information under article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights, breach of confidence, and the regulation of surveillance". Posts cover legal news stories including links to original sources, decisions, legislation and reports.

Research guide to the Somaliland legal system

Article looking at the legal system of Somaliland written by Mohamed Farah Hersi who is an attorney and human rights researcher and a Ph.D. student at the Faculty of Law of the University of Pretoria. The guide was published in 2009 (and updated in 2020) on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School at the New York University School of Law. Somaliland is a breakaway territory established in the north of Somalia in 1991 and is not currently recognised by the international community.
