Harvard Law School Library Research Guides

A series of legal research guides devised by staff at Harvard Law School Library and made freely available in HTML format. The guides suggest approaches to legal research relating to particular topics or jurisdictions, with bibliographic references to print materials held locally and web based resources where appropriate. The guides are grouped under headings for General Library Research, United States Law Research and International, Foreign and Comparative Law Research.

Terrorism, Transnational Crime and Corruption Center

Website of the Terrorism, Transnational Crime and Corruption Center (TraCCC), a research institute looking at the links between terrorism, transnational crime and corruption, based at the School of Public Policy at George Mason University in Virginia in the United States. The site has background information and links to research and resources on the issues TraCCC is involved with including corruption, money laundering, human trafficking, terrorism and security.

Researching Canadian law

Research and resource guide for Canada, by Kim Nayyer, covering print and online sources of law and legal materials. Published on New York University's Globalex website and updated periodically, it gives overview of the Canadian legal system and provides background information and sources of Canadian legislation and case law. There is guidance to law schools and the legal profession and to secondary literature including journals, books, directories and legal dictionaries. A separate section deals with legal research in Quebec.

Baldy Centre for Law and Social Policy

The Baldy Center for Law and Social Policy is based at the University of Buffalo Law School in New York State, USA. The Center supports interdisciplinary study of law, and services the research needs of socio-legal scholars. The Center also houses the editorial offices of the interdisciplinary journal, "Law and Policy". The site outlines research activities and programs conducted at the Center, providing information about faculty and staff, student information, notification of forthcoming events and publications.

Courtserve Legal Information Centre

The Courtserve Legal Information Centre is a website of Courtel Communications Limited who provide a number of subscription services aimed at legal practitioners including digital delivery of court lists and legal news. A selection of free services can be accessed on the Courtservice site. These include court lists from the Crown Courts, the Royal Courts of Justice, selected County Courts and Employment Tribunal lists. These require free registration. A Directory of Chambers, a Crown Court Directory and a County Court Directory are available on the site.

Centre for Socio-Legal Research

Web pages describing the aims and work of the Centre for Socio-Legal Research based at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Research at the Centre is organised around projects looking at: the operation of the Family Advocate system, the Family Court and welfare system in South Africa. The Centre is also involved in the development of policy initiatives in the areas of family law and welfare. The site provides a staff list with contact information, brief details of activities and publications, and links to other Internet sites relevant to socio-legal studies.

Indigenous Law Resources

A service developed and hosted by AustLII as part of  collaboration with the Council for Aboriginal and the Australian Research Council on Reconciliation and Social Justice in Australia. Provides a collection of primary documents on the subject of  indigenous law, relating particularly to Australia: parliamentary papers, government reports, policy documents, reports and submissions by civil society organisations, documents relating to test cases, and material concerning indigenous advocacy.

Doing Legal Research in Brazil

A comprehensive research guide explaining the legal system in Brazil with bibliographic details of sources and links to materials available on the internet. The guide was written by Monaliza Da Silva, International Legal Fellow at White & Case LLP in New York. The guide was published in 2015 (and updated in 2019) on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School Program at the New York University School of Law.

German business and commercial laws: guide to translations into English and select auxiliary sources

A bibliographic guide to business and commercial laws in the Federal Republic of Germany, listing English translations, research aids and sources. The guide was written by Dr. Sebastian Omlor who is Professor of Law and Director of the Institute for Comparative Law at the University of Marburg School of Law in Germany. The guide was published in 2005 (and updated in 2022) on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School Program at the New York University School of Law.

Guide to the U.S. Federal Legal System: Web-based Public Accessible Sources

An online research guide outlining the structure of the US federal legal system with reference to web based publicly accessible legal sources written by Gretchen Feltes, Reference Librarian/Faculty Services at the New York University School of Law Library. The guide was originally published in 2003 on LLRX.com (Law Library Resource Xchange), the free online web journal for legal information professionals.
