Association for the Study of Law, Culture, and the Humanities

Website of the Association for the Study of Law, Culture, and the Humanities (LCH) a global membership body of legal scholars focused on law and the humanities. Research areas cover “legal history, legal theory and jurisprudence, law and cultural studies, law and literature, law and the performing arts, and legal hermeneutics”. The LCH holds annual conferences and publishes a quarterly journal, Law, Culture and the Humanities. The Resources section of the website provides related web links and a bibliography of publications by LCH members.

Law, Literature and Humanities Association of Australasia

Website of the Law, Literature and Humanities Association of Australasia (LLHAA) a membership organisation for legal scholars focusing on the intersection between law and culture. The LLHAA holds biannual conferences throughout the region. Details of previous conferences, including abstracts of speeches and papers, are given on the website along with profiles and contacts for the management committee and other members.

LHub

Website of LHub, the arts and humanities hub at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (IALS), which connects law with “history, philosophy, literature, art, performance, linguistics, cultural and media studies, creative practice”. The site gives details of events including seminars and workshops along with research collaborations and partners.

African Institute of International Law

The African Institute of International Law (AIIL) promotes the dissemination of international law in Africa and seeks to enhance the rule of law in Africa. Its website gives details of AIIL workshops, summer schools, capacity-building projects and other events. It also makes available the African Law Series: compilations of African legal instruments including AU/OAU treaties, declarations and resolutions (see Media Center – Resources).

University of Law Blog

The University of Law blog is aimed at law students and anyone interested in legal education or pursuing a career in law. Recent posts provide information on studying at the University of Law with city guides to places where the University has campuses. Other posts look at different types of law firms, finding legal internships, legal research skills and training contracts. There are also posts focusing on specific legal topics eg. public law, entertainment law and sports law.

University of Law Podcast

The University of Law podcast is aimed at law students and anyone considering a career in law. The podcast has interviews and discussions with lecturers, students, alumni and special guests covering a range of topics. Recent series have focused on becoming a barrister, becoming a solicitor, student life and conversations with alumni on progress in their career and advice they would give to current students.

Codification and Progressive Development of International Law

The Codification Division forms part of the United Nations Office of Legal affairs providing secretariat services, legal advice and preparation of draft texts of conventions and other instruments to the Sixth Committee, the International Law Commission and special committees set up to codify and develop rules of international law on particular topics. The site provides information on the work of these bodies and a searchable database of Codification Division publications.

European Lawyers Foundation

The European Lawyers Foundation (ELF) is a network of law societies and bars in Europe which is focused on training. Current projects include an exchange scheme for lawyers in Europe to enhance practical knowledge of other European legal systems, training on the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, EU Criminal Law, EU asylum and immigration law and capacity building for lawyers involved with cases taken to the ICC. ELF publications can be freely downloaded from the site.

Urban Lawyers

Urban Lawyers is a UK charity focused on making the legal profession more accessible to marginalised groups, and on educating young people from underrepresented backgrounds about the law. Its website has information about projects, events, training and the Urban Lawyers Education Programme. The Resources section includes free e-books on legal careers and information about mentorship. The site also has details of urban law societies around the country.

LawPod

A podcast created by Dr Rachel Kellean and Richard Summerville from Queen’s University Belfast. Posted at intervals ranging from monthly to weekly, the episodes are hosted by staff and students, each focusing on a different legal issue or concept, often featuring academic or professional guests. Whilst solely audio-based, with no transcript available, the archive tab lists the episodes with accompanying notes, and occasionally relevant blog posts. The blog offers additional insight into some of the topics covered in the podcast episodes.
