The University of Law podcast is aimed at law students and anyone considering a career in law. The podcast has interviews and discussions with lecturers, students, alumni and special guests covering a range of topics. Recent series have focused on becoming a barrister, becoming a solicitor, student life and conversations with alumni on progress in their career and advice they would give to current students.
Urban Lawyers
Urban Lawyers is a UK charity focused on making the legal profession more accessible to marginalised groups, and on educating young people from underrepresented backgrounds about the law. Its website has information about projects, events, training and the Urban Lawyers Education Programme. The Resources section includes free e-books on legal careers and information about mentorship. The site also has details of urban law societies around the country.
Refugee Law Clinic
Website of the Refugee Law Clinic established by the University of London (UoL) to provide pro bono legal advice for refugee clients (referrals only) focusing on asylum claims. The project provides clinical legal education opportunities for volunteer law students from 10 UoL member universities along with volunteers from law firms Macfarlanes and Clifford Chance. Details of project partners and supervising lawyers are also given on the site.
Clinical Legal Education Handbook
The Clinical Legal Education Handbook is a free open access ebook (PDF). The book is edited by Linden Thomas and Nick Johnson and was published by the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (IALS) in 2020. The handbook gives guidance on how to establish and run student law clinics, the regulatory framework and research on clinical legal education. There is also a section providing resources and document templates covering policies and procedures, checklists and questionnaires.
Legal Education Foundation
The Legal Education Foundation is an independent grant-making body which provides funding to organisations undertaking charitable work focusing on legal education. Its website has guidance on applying for grants, details of the funding programmes and information on projects that have been funded in the past.
Lawyer Portal
The Lawyer Portal is a free resource provided by The Career Portal, in partnership with the Bar Council and the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives, and aimed at anyone considering a career in law. The site has free guides covering topics of interest to sixth formers, university students and graduates including law apprenticeships, choosing a university course, work experience and pupillage. These are written by professional lawyers and education experts. The site also offers career tips, details of events, free learning materials and teachers’ guides.
