Online guide to the legal system and legal materials of Niger written by Bello Mahamadou Boubacar who is an intern at the appeal court in Niamey and a United Nations volunteer lawyer. The guide was published in 2009 on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School Program at the New York University School of Law. The author gives an introduction to the Republic of Niger and the Niger legal system explaining the dualistic system of law which includes written laws and customary law. The guide looks at the various sources of law in Niger including the Constitution, international conventions and regulatory acts. There is an outline of the roles and functions of the judiciary and the court system covering the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, the High Court of Justice and the Constitutional Court. Other sections look at the role of the various legal professions in Niger including judges, lawyers, notaries and clerks and provide references to laws relating to the constitutional bodies, courts and the legal profession.
