Online guide to the legal system of Uruguay written by Cecilia Orlando who is Counsel at the law firm Guyer & Regules in Montevideo and Melanie Ollero also at Guyer & Regules. The guide was published in 2007 (and updated in 2023) on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School Program at the New York University School of Law. The authors give a profile of and background information to Uruguay with guidance on the legal and judicial systems, sources of law and the functions of the different types of courts. Other sections of the guide deal with different areas of law including citizenship, company law, foreign investment law, international trade relations, intellectual property rights, environmental law, human rights, labour and social security law and the tax system. There is also a section on the practice of law in Uruguay, a bibliography and links to legal websites.
