Online resource guide to researching comparative law written by Paul Norman who was senior reference librarian at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, University of London from 1970 to 2006. The guide was published in 2006 on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School at the New York University School of Law. The guide has been updated in 2021 by Hester Swift who is Foreign and International Law Librarian at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies. The author gives a definition of the term 'comparative law' and provides an introduction to the related topics of private international law (conflict of laws) and unification of law. There are suggestions for key sources of international uniform law and works on European harmonisation. There is a list of recommended books, journals, research bodies, national organisations and research guides on comparative law with web links given where available. There are also recommendations for collections of legal materials from many jurisdictions and sources of subject specific collections of laws.
