American Society of Criminology

The American Society of Criminology is an international organisation which promotes research and education in all areas of criminal justice. It has divisions focusing on corrections and sentencing; critical criminology; experimental criminology; international criminology; people of color and crime; and women and crime. The website describes the work of the Society and provides information about its annual meeting. The Publications page includes a link to criminology abstracts.

United Nations Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders

Website for the United Nations Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (UNAFEI) an online information resource providing information about the Institute's aims and activities. UNAFEI is a United Nations regional institute formed by agreement between the UN and the government of Japan. The site includes information about UNAFEI's history, organisation, facilities and staff. It gives details of current projects, including lists of training events and international seminars.

United Nations Latin American Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders

The website of the United Nations Latin American Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (ILANUD) is an online information resource that aims to provide information on crime prevention and criminal justice to Latin American countries. The Institute forms part of the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme network. The site provides background information to the Institute's origins, its aims and activities.

National Institute of Justice International Center

The National Institute of Justice's (NIJ) International Center website is an online information resource that aims to "stimulate, facilitate, evaluate and disseminate" criminal justice research and information. The Center is a part of the US Department of Justice. The resources are aimed primarily at practitioners, researchers and policymakers whose professional interests lie in the globalization of crime. The site offers access to information about the Center and its aims, recent events at the Center, an international calendar of upcoming events and NIJ's involvement with the UN.

National Institute of Justice

The website of the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) is the research and development arm of the United States Department of Justice. Its website covers the work of the institute, news, funding opportunities and publications. A section listing the programs currently being run by the Institute is included with links to the individual program sites. 

HEUNI: European Institute for Crime Prevention and Control

The website of the European Institute for Crime Prevention and Control (HEUNI), is an online information resource that aims to provide information on crime prevention and criminal justice to European countries. The Institute, located in Helsinki, was formed through an Agreement between the United Nations and Finland in 1981 and forms part of the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme network. The website provides a list of HEUNI publications arising from its research in the field, many of which can be can be accessed in full-text.

Office for the Victims of Crime

Website of the US Office for Victims of Crime (OVC), the official body responsible for funding state compensation schemes for crime victims, supporting them and promoting their rights and contributing to the development of policy. It provides a large amount of information for victims, professionals who work with them and those carrying out research in the area. The site explains the organisation and work of the OVC and makes available its reports to Congress (1996 onwards). There is detailed guidance about applying for funding and organising events.

Irish Penal Reform Trust

Website for the Irish Penal Reform Trust (IPRT), an independent organisation campaigning for dignity, justice and humane approaches in the development and implementation of penal systems, particularly in Ireland. The site outlines the Trust's aims and mission supported by the publication onsite of Trust Policy statements on matters such as the introduction of private prisons in Ireland and sentencing in the District Court. Policy responses and submissions and relevant press stories are also provided.

British Society of Criminology

The British Society of Criminology aims to "further the interests and knowledge, both academic and professional, of persons engaged in any aspect of teaching and research, or in the promotion and dissemination of knowledge, about crime and criminal behaviour, and the criminal justice systems in the United Kingdom". The Society publishes a newsletter four times a year and a conference is held every two years. Its website gives details of branch meetings.

International Journal of the Sociology of Law

A print journal published by Elsevier, but this site gives the titles and some abstracts of articles published since March 1995 (via Science Direct, an online journal delivery service). The title of the journal has been changed to International Journal of Law, Crime and Justice since 2007 December. The International Journal of the Sociology of Law is an interdisciplinary forum for high quality research and debate on social context and social implications of law, law-enforcement, and legal process.
