Website of Law Brief Publishing a legal publishing company founded in 2006. The site gives details of Law Brief publications which include practical guides for lawyers. Free samples and chapters from some of the books are provided on the site. The company publish PI Brief Update Law Journal, a monthly online subscription publication offering case law, news items and articles on personal injury law. There is also a free newsletter giving updates on recent cases in all the major areas of law. You are required to register on the site to receive this publication.

Online guide to the Judicial System of England and Wales produced by the International Team of the Judicial Office. The guide is aimed at foreign visitors with an interest in the judiciary and legal system.
There are sections explaining the court system, the justice system, the role of judges in England and Wales. There is also information on organisations such as the Ministry of Justice and the Crown Prosecution Service. The guide can be downloaded in full in PDF.

Legal Services Agency

Website of the Legal Services Agency (LSA) a Law Centre and Charity based in Scotland. The organisation provides legal advice and representation for disadvantaged people focusing on issues such as mental illness, poverty, debt, homelessness, women and young people. There is information on the law in Scotland relating to these topics and a number of publications that are free to download from the site. Details are also given of seminars and legal education events held at the LSA.

UK Web Archive

The UK Web Archive aims to give permanent online access to key UK websites for future generations by preserving ‘snapshots’ of websites over time. The project is jointly provided by the British Library in partnership with the National Library of Wales, JISC and the Wellcome Library. It is possible to search the archive or to browse by category. The category titled ‘Government, Law and Politics’ includes the sub-categories ‘Law and Legal System’ and ‘Crime, Criminology, Police and Prisons.’

2018 Reform of EU Data Protection Rules

This page on the European Commission website provides information on the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which comes into force in May 2018. The GDPR will establish one set of data protection rules for all companies operating in the EU and gives people more control over their personal data. There is information aimed at businesses and organisations on what they must do to comply with the new rules and a section aimed at the general public on how their personal data is protected.

This website is provided by IT company Trunomi and is designed to provide information to the public on the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which comes into force on 25th May 2018. The site gives an overview of the main changes to data protection law being introduced by the GDPR along with an outline of the European Union legislative process and the GDPR timeline. There are links to the full text regulation and to articles and comment on law firm websites.

UK in a Changing Europe

Website of the UK in a Changing Europe research initiative which is based at King’s College London and looks at key aspects of UK and EU dynamics. Research is focused on Brexit and covers a wide range of issues viewed from a legal, political and economic perspective. The site gives details of the various research projects being conducted including the effect of Brexit on UK residents in Europe, Brexit and Northern Ireland, health law outside the EU and the effect of Brexit on UK and EU immigrations policies.

Northern Ireland Local Government Commissioner for Standards

The Northern Ireland Local Government Commissioner for Standards investigates complaints that a councillor has failed to comply with the Northern Ireland Local Government Code of Conduct for Councillors (which sets out the principles and rules of conduct which councillors must observe). The site has guidance aimed at the public on making a complaint and for councillors on the complaints procedure. Details of past and forthcoming Adjudication Hearings are given on the site along with decisions.

Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman (NIPSO)

The Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman (NIPSO) provides a complaints service for members of the public dealing with organisations including government departments and agencies, councils, public housing providers and Health and Social Care Trusts. There is guidance aimed at the public on making a complaint and NIPSO service standards and guidance for public authorities on handling complaints and issuing apologies. A selection of summaries of cases dealt with by NIPSO is given in the online Annual Reports dating from 2012-13.

Young Legal Aid Lawyers

Young Legal Aid Lawyers (YLAL) is a group of lawyers who are committed to practising in the areas of criminal and civil law that have traditionally been publically funded. The website contains information about the groups objectives, the committee members and the work of sub-groups. Meeting minutes are available, as is a collection of articles, briefings, reports and consultation responses.
