Sentencing Council

The Sentencing Council website provides information on the work of the  Sentencing Council for England and Wales. This body "promotes greater consistency in sentencing, whilst maintaining the independence of the judiciary". There is information on sentencing guidelines, the Sentencing Code and how sentencing works. There is also guidance on going to court and the sentences handed down for common offences. 

 

Cornell Death Penalty Project

The Cornell Death Penalty Project is based at the Cornell Law School in New York. The aim of the Project is to foster "scholarship related to the death penalty and its administration". The Project conducts research and sponsors a clinic enabling students to assist with the representation of capital defendants. The site includes details of clinic case studies and a list of articles on the death penalty written by faculty members. Links are given to the full articles which are made available on subscription services, Westlaw and Lexis Nexis.

Vera Institute of Justice

The website of the Vera Institute of Justice is an online information resource offering information about the Institute's activities in the field of criminal justice. Its scope is international, though its head office is based in New York. The Institute works with government officials in New York as well as those in other countries and the site describes these working relationships. The site gives details of the many projects the Institute supports dealing with immigration and justice, youth justice, policing, sentencing and corrections and the judicial process.

Justice Project

Website of The Justice Project (TJP), a Washington-based independent campaigning organisation which seeks to foster fairness and accuracy in criminal cases. The Project's work is focused on reform of the death penalty. The site has information on the staff and work of the TJP. Current activities are focused on areas of the criminal justice system where mistakes could be eliminated.
