Constitution of Samoa

Electronic copy of the 1962 Constitution of Samoa made freely available online by the Comparative Constitutions Project at the University of Texas at Austin. The Constitution is provided in PDF and is amended up to 2013. There are chapters on fundamental rights, the role of the head of state and the executive, legislative and judicial powers.

Samoa Legal Information Institute

Website of the Samoa Legal Information Institute (SamLII), which was set up to provide free access to Samoan primary legal materials. Full-text judgments from the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, High Court, Family Court and other courts are provided along with selected Samoan legislation and court rules. The site is administered by American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative and supported by the Australasian Legal Information Institute (AustLII).

Samoan laws, information and materials

Forming part of the PACLII database, this webpage provides sources of Samoan legal materials and information, including unofficial versions of Consolidated Acts of Samoa 2016, a diagram of the court structure, rules of court, New Zealand legislation which may apply in Samoa, cases from many different Samoan courts, selected Western Samoa Law Reports (1921 – 1993), selected unreported judgements from Western Samoa (1995 – 1996) and some historical documents. District Court of Samoa

Forming part of the PACLII website, this webpage gives access to electronic versions of selected decisions from the District Court of Samoa, from 1999 through to 2006, and updated on a yearly basis. Cases can be browsed both alphabetically and by year. Alternatively, the database search option can be selected, which will allow searching across the entire dataset.

Parliament of Samoa

The official website of the Parliament of Samoa. Clear explanations of legislative history and current legislative structure and operation. Contains full text of the Samoan constitution in English, and clear links to the full text of other important Samoan acts. There are also separate lists of both acts & ordinances, and regulations, which can be browsed by year, and which are available in both Samoan and English, dating back to 1908.

Pacific Islands Legal Information Institute

The Pacific Islands Legal Information Institute (PacLII) provides free internet access to legislation and cases for jurisdictions in the South Pacific. Islands covered by the service include American Samoa, the Cook Islands, Fiji, Guam, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, the Northern Mariana Islands, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Pitcairn, Samoa, the Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu. A site search form allows specific database selection and query with boolean functionality.

Law of the Pacific Islands

A guide to web-based resources, listing and describing internet sites providing legislation, law reports and government information for the Pacific Island region. The guide has been written by Ruth Bird who is Bodleian Law Librarian at the University of Oxford, Dianne Thompson who is a Librarian at the Legal Services Commission of South Australia and Anna Matich of the ASIC in Brisbane. The guide was published in the features section of LLRX.com in July 2008 and updates previous versions published in October 2000, April 2002 and December 2005.

Journal of South Pacific Law

Website of The Journal of South Pacific Law which is published by the School of Law at the University of the South Pacific and made freely available online in full-text. Content is focused on the laws of the South Pacific region including the jurisdictions of the Cook Islands, Fiji Islands, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu. The journal publishes a wide range of material and legal research including refereed articles, working papers, conference reports, case notes and book reviews.

Commonwealth Legal Information Institute

The Commonwealth Legal Information Institute (CommonLII) is a cooperative legal information initiative led by AustLII (the Australasian Legal Information Institute) providing access to freely available legal materials from all Commonwealth countries. CommonLII contains over 400 databases providing case law, legislation, treaties and law reform reports from more than 50 Commonwealth and common law countries and territories.

Pacific Islands Treaty Series

A Pacific Islands Legal Information Institute (PacLII) resource containing bilateral and multilateral treaties affecting Pacific Island countries and last updated in 2009. The interface is available in English or French. Under "Other Resources", there is background information about each country and details of treaty-making procedures, along with a glossary of treaty terms. PacLII is a joint initiative involving the University of the South Pacific and the Australasian Legal Information Institute (AustLII).
