Details of decisions and agreements are available from the Office of the Attorney General, the Supreme Court, the Supreme Administrative Court, the Courts of Lisbon and Oporto, and the Constitutional Court. The texts and presentation throughout are in Portuguese. The page also offers selected bibliographic data from Portuguese law libraries.

Diário da República

Diário da República, the Portuguese official gazette, is available free on this website. It is now published in two series: legislation appears in Series I and administrative actions in Series II. Series III, which has ceased publication, used to publish official notices. Series I is available from 1910 onwards; Series II from 1990 onwards; and Series III from 1943 to mid-2006 . The site is in Portuguese.

Tribunal Constitucional Portugal

Official website of the Portuguese Constitutional Court. The site has background information on the organisation and functioning of the Court and profiles of the judges. There are laws relating to the Constitutional Court, electoral issues and political parties in Portugal and a copy of the Constitution. Full text decisions of the Constitutional Court are given in Portugese with summaries provided in English. The site can be viewed in Portuguese and English versions.

Constitution of Portugal

The text of the 1976 Portuguese Constitution updated to 1989, provided in English by the International Constitutional Law (ICL) project at the University of Bern in Switzerland.The site also offers brief historical information about the constitution. There are links to information about constitutional revisions on Portuguese websites.

Animal Legal and Historical Web Center

Website of the Animal Legal and Historical Web Center which is a project based at the Michigan State University - Detroit College of Law. The site provides free access to primary legal materials and guides to the law. US laws and cases are arranged by state or subject. Subjects covered include animal rights, dog fighting and exotic pets. There is also information on the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). The emphasis of the site is on U.S law but it includes legal materials from other countries such as the United Kingdom, Brazil, Malawi, Poland and Taiwan.

Legal research in Portugal: a guide

Online guide to researching the law of Portugal, by Portuguese lawyer Tiago Fidalgo de Freitas, updated by Raquel Ferreira Pedrosa Alves. Published on New York University's Globalex website and updated periodically, it gives background information about the Constitution and government and covers the sources of Portuguese law, including legislation and cases, with links to court websites and the most important legal codes. Links are given to law schools, legal journals and major legal publishers, and there are references to books on Portuguese law.

N-Lex

N-Lex provides a single search interface that can be used to search any of the national legislation websites of the EU member states. The search page is available in all 24 EU official languages. When searching by key words, either machine translation or the multilingual Eurovoc thesaurus can be used to translate them. For each state there is also general information about the types of legislation produced and the website to which the N-Lex search interface applies.
