Union of International Associations (UIA)

The Union of International Associations was founded in 1907. It is an independent non-governmental organisation which aims to facilitate the evolution of a worldwide network of non-profit organisations. It promotes research on the legal and political problems facing these bodies. The UIA website has information on the purpose of the organisation, a list of members, and details of UIA publications, including reports, research studies and guidelines for NGO action. There is also a news section.

Council of Europe

The Council of Europe (CoE) is an international organisation concerned with strengthening democracy, human rights and the rule of law in Europe. The CoE website has information about the history and current work of the Council, including publications, databases, treaties, news, statistics and educational resources.

East African Community

The East African Community is an intergovernmental regional organisation which seeks to promote social, economic and political cooperation between the African nations of Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda and Kenya. Its website provides information on the aims of the organisation, its members and current activities. It provides free access to recent press releases, communiques, annual reports, full-text treaties and other documents. Topics covered include free trade and fiscal policies in Africa, economic aid, health policy, democratic and political development.

Council of the European Union

The Council of the European Union is the principal decision-making body of the EU, composed of government ministers from each member state. Its website gives details of Council meetings and European Council activities. The Documents section includes a register of internal documents, an Agreements Database (covering treaties), the EU Law Tracker (monitoring the progress of EU legislation) and the PRADO database of information about identity and travel documents. The Research section provides research papers and a collection of selected think tank publications.

Secretariat-General of the European Commission

The function of the Secretariat-General (SG) is to support the work of the European Commission and its President. It oversees the correct application of EU laws and coordinates the activities of the Commission Directorates-General. The website includes information about the work of the European Commission and relations between the Commission and other EU institutions. SG publications are available, including its Annual Activity Report and the Commission's Work Programme. The site is available in the official EU languages.

Yearbook of the United Nations

The Yearbook of the United Nations records the work of the United Nations, covering all areas of its responsibility. Each Yearbook lists all major General Assembly, Security Council and Economic and Social Council resolutions. It also contains information on major UN decisions, lists of key personnel and appointments, details of budgets and key UN reforms. The website provides all volumes, 1946-2006. A single volume can be selected from a drop-down menu. There is also a search facility which can search either the entire series or shorter date-ranges.

Introduction to public international law research

Research guide providing an introduction to public international law and highlighting the key information sources, written by Vicenç Feliú, Foreign, Comparative and International Law Librarian at Louisiana State University. Last updated in 2016, the guide is available on the Globalex website. It defines 'international law' and gives an introduction to key bodies, including the United Nations, the European Union and the specialised agencies of the UN. There is guidance to researching treaties, with links to collections of treaties and treaty research guides.

ASSER International Sports Law Centre

The ASSER International Sports Law Centre, part of the TMC Asser Institute in the Netherlands, carries out research and provides consultancy services, teaching and training. The research is interdisciplinary; in the field of law it embraces comparative law, public and private international law, EU law and international commercial arbitration. The website provides information on the work of the Centre, its staff, academic partners, events, conferences and publications.
