International Committee of the Red Cross

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is the leading international humanitarian organization. Its website has a substantial section devoted to international humanitarian law ('Law and War'). It includes the Geneva Conventions, with commentaries, and a database of customary international humanitarian law. The site also provides ICRC publications, including cases studies and the International Review of the Red Cross back to 2004 (plus two earlier issues), as well as e-learning modules. The site is available English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Russian and Portuguese.

Commonwealth and International Human Rights Case Law Databases

These two databases are compiled by INTERIGHTS, the International Centre for the Legal Protection of Human Rights, and made freely available on their website. One covers human rights decisions in the courts of Commonwealth countries and the other covers the decisions of international courts and tribunals. The databases can be searched separately or together. There is a summary of each case and some judgments are available in full.

Carr Center for Human Rights Policy

Website of the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy, founded in 1999 and based at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. A large collection of the Center's publications is available on the website for free, including research reports, conference reports and articles. Information is also provided about events and courses and there are profiles of the research fellows and staff.

Open Society Justice Initiative

The Open Society Justice Initiative is a programme of the Open Society Institute, a private foundation established by the philanthropist George Soros in 1993. It is concerned with the promotion of law reform, the protection human rights and the development of international law. The site gives details of current and past activities, covering areas such as national criminal justice reform, international justice, freedom of information and expression, equality and citizenship, anti-corruption and development of legal capacity.

Humanitarian Law Center

The Humanitarian Law Center (HLC) is a non-governmental human rights and humanitarian law centre established in 1992 following the conflict in former Yugoslavia. It is based in Serbia. The HLC's work includes researching human rights violations, campaigning for justice and institutional reform and gathering documentation on war crimes. The website provides court documentation, reports, press releases and other information. Details of conferences and courses organised by the HLC are also available. The site is in Serbian, English and Albanian

Legislationline

Legislationline is a website provided by the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), which is part of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). It consists primarily of a database of selected legal texts from countries within the OSCE region, as well as international legal materials. The purpose of this database is to provide examples of domestic legislation and international standards for the use of lawmakers in OSCE participating states.
