This page on the Law.com International website provides legal news relating to the conflict in Ukraine. The site is monitoring the impact Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the ensuing sanctions have had on the legal industry providing news, expert analysis, features and opinion pieces. Content covers the response of law firms to the crisis, the issues faced by firms who have been working in Russia and the pro bono and humanitarian efforts being undertaken by the industry. Law.com International is a legal news site aimed at international lawyers.
Website of the Ethical Standards Commissioner, an independent regulator that looks at how people are appointed to the boards of public bodies in Scotland and investigates complaints made about the behaviour of MSPs, local authority councillors, board members of public bodies and lobbyists.
Website of the World Association for Medical Law (WAML) an organisation established in 1967 to “encourage the study and discussion of health law, legal medicine and ethics, for the benefit of society and the advancement of human rights”. WAML is a membership organisation based at the University of Ghent in Belgium. It organises regular conferences and events and publishes Medicine and Law an international journal dealing with medico legal issues. There is also a newsletter available from 2009 to 2014 (thereafter available to members only). A page of related web links is also given.
Qatar Law Forum is an international conference hosted in Doha under the patronage of the Emir of Qatar. It aims to discuss the Rule of Law and related issues of international law and has been convened twice, in 2009 and 2012. The forum’s English website provides links to news articles relating to the forum and also provides documents on the discussions including newsletters, the text of some of the speeches and a discussion paper on the role of ethics in finance. The site also features YouTube clips of the conference and photographs.
The British Medical Association (BMA) is the doctors’ professional organisation, representing doctors across all branches of medicine in the UK. The ‘Equality and Diversity’ section introduces the Equality Act 2010 and contains a short guide to the changes introduced by the Act. The ‘Medical Ethics’ section provides a range of guidance for doctors including ‘toolkits’, available in PDF, offering ethical guidance to doctors in areas such as child protection and the Mental Capacity Act. This section also contains a range of BMA publications, also in PDF format.
Archived website of Standards for England (Standards Board for England), a non-departmental public body which was abolished in 2012. Standards for England was the strategic regulator with responsibility for promoting high standards of conduct amongst councillors and members of local public authorities in England. Its website includes reports of meetings and information on the Code of Conduct and local standards framework. Summaries of completed investigations can be browsed or searched on the site.
The Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) is the division of the United States Department of Health and Human Services responsible for ensuring that human subject research complies with appropriate regulations through the provision of guidance and education to research institutions. The OHRP website publishes a range of policy guidance, including federal regulations, compliance procedures and other advice-giving materials. Policy guidance is organised by topic including consent, research, human subjects, children, prisoners, stem cells and tissue storage.
Website of Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research (PRIM&R), a non-profit, membership organisation based in the United States concerned with "implementing, and advancing the highest ethical standards in the conduct of research". The site provides organisational and membership information along with details of past and upcoming conferences and PRIM&R publications. There is a large collection of links to related online resources, arranged under headings such as human subjects research, animal care and research, biosafety and general ethics.
Text of the Declaration of Helsinki, adopted in June 1964 by the General Assembly of the World Medical Association (WMA). The document is on the WMA's website. It incorporates amendments made at subsequent General Assembly meetings. The declaration concerns ethical principles for physicians and others carrying out medical research with human subjects. It is provided in English, French and Spanish.
