Adjudication Panel for Wales

Website of the Adjudication Panel for Wales an independent body established under Part III of the Local Government Act 2000. The role of the Adjudication Panel is to form tribunals to decide whether members of local authorities, police, fire and national park authorities in Wales have breached their statutory code of conduct. Details and decisions of previous tribunals are provided on the site along with annual reports and a list of Panel members.

Local Government Association

The Local Government Association (LGA) represents the local authorities of England and Wales. It is a voluntary lobbying organisation whose aim is to promote better local government. The website provides access to information and briefings across the spectrum of local government issues, policies and initiatives: relating to services, housing, economic development and regeneration, etc. A large number of research briefings and discussion papers are made freely available on the site.

Prisons and Probation Ombudsman for England and Wales

The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman for England and Wales (PPO) responds to complaints about conditions and treatment from prisoners and people subjected to probation orders. Its website provides information on the function and current activities of the ombudsman. It includes access to recent annual reports, case digest newsletters, fatal incident reports, special investigation reports and surveys and research reports. Also provided is user information on how to file a complaint and a listing of related internet sites on the topic of prisons.

Healthcare Inspectorate Wales

Website of the Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW) the independent inspectorate and regulator of healthcare in Wales. The HIW is part of the Welsh Assembly Government and has responsibility for reviewing and inspecting NHS and independent healthcare organisations. The site has HIW publications including reviews, inspection reports and corporate documents which can be downloaded in full text along with links to related legislation.

Wales legislation

The Legislation.gov.uk website brings together the legislation held on the OPSI website and revised legislation from the Statute Law Database. The site is hosted by The National Archives on behalf of HM Government. This part of the site provides access to Welsh legislation including Measures of the National Assembly for Wales (2008 onwards) and Wales Statutory Instruments (1999 onwards). These can be browsed or searched separately. Legislation which may apply to Wales such as UK Public General Acts and UK Statutory Instruments are also available.

Planning Inspectorate (Wales)

Website of the Planning Inspectorate for Wales. This organisation is responsible for the processing of planning and enforcement appeals and holding inquiries into local development plans. The site has information on how to make an appeal and sections dealing with the different types of appeals that can be made. These include planning appeals, high hedges appeals, listed buildings, rights of way, enforcement appeals and access appeals. Forms relating to planning appeals in Wales can be downloaded from the site and there is a page of planning web links.

Special Educational Needs Tribunal for Wales

The Special Educational Needs Tribunal for Wales (SENTW) considers appeals from parents of children, with special educational needs, against decisions of Welsh Local Authorities. The site has information on the make up of the Tribunal and its powers. Annual reports are provided back to 2003/4 containing statistical information about the type of appeals dealt with by the SENTW. A page of related web links is also given.

Public Services Ombudsman for Wales

The Public Services Ombudsman for Wales is the organisation with responsibility for investigating complaints made by members of the public about the way they have been treated by a public body. The Ombudsman deals with complaints made about local government, National Health Service organisations - including GPs - housing associations and the Welsh Assembly Government. The website provides information about the role of the Ombudsman and includes details of the complaints procedure, investigation reports and annual reports.

Care Inspectorate Wales

Care Inspectorate Wales is the independent regulator of social care and childcare in Wales. Work involves registering and inspecting care services, responding to concerns raised about social care and ensuring services meet legislative and regulatory requirements. Inspection, annual and local authority reports are available on the site. Links are given to relevant legislation, regulations and guidance. There is also a searchable care services directory and a register of service providers.
