USMCA Secretariat

Website of the Secretariat established by the United States Mexico Canada Agreement (USMCA) which is an updated version of the North American Free Trade Agreement of January 1 1994 (NAFTA). The Secretariat has sections focusing on the United States, Mexico and Canada. It provides administrative support and administration of the dispute settlement process. The USMCA and NAFTA can both be viewed in full on the site along with the rules of procedure, code of conduct and procedural forms. There are links to related organisations and a selection of FAQs.

Major Pending Election Cases

This database is a project of the Election Law Program at The Ohio State University’s Moritz College of Law, made freely available online in partnership with the SCOTUSblog website. The database provides case summaries, comprehensive court filings and expert commentary about important election law cases from around the United States. The case tracker can be searched by date, name, state, status and topic. Along with the case summaries there are links to associated court documents. It is also possible to view all cases relating to the 2020 presidential election results.

Bureau of Justice Statistics

Website of the US Bureau of Justice Statistics the government department which collects and analyses information on crime, criminal offenders and the operation of justice. Statistics can be viewed by subject eg. corrections (prisons, capital punishment), courts, crime, costs of crime, law enforcement and victims of crime or by publication. These can be browsed or search and downloaded in full from the site along with data tables.

The Hearing

The Hearing is a free legal podcast produced by Thomson Reuters featuring discussions with lawyers, legal experts and others connected with the law. Recent guests have included Bryan Garner, Editor-in-Chief of Blacks Law Dictionary, Shaun Wallace, Barrister and television personality and Aika Stephenson, solicitor and founder of Just For Kids Law, a charity that represents and advocates for children in contact with the criminal justice system. This page provides links to The Hearing (and other Thomson Reuters podcasts) on various services.

Bill of Health

Bill of Health is the blog of the Petrie-Flom Center at Harvard Law School and a forum for health law policy and bioethical issues. The blog highlights new research, legal developments and news in the areas of health law policy, biotechnology and bioethics. Posts are searchable by keyword and are available back to 2012 when the blog was started. A selection of digital symposia present articles on related topics including adoption, microdosing psychedelic drugs, Covid 19 and tort liability and health, disability and work post Covid.

The Indigo Book

The Indigo Book is an open-access legal citation manual that uses the same citation system as the well-known Bluebook. It is an open access resource, provided by a team of students from New York University led by Professor Christopher Jon Sprigman; it was last updated in 2016. 

Tax Resources

Collection of guides to taxation compiled and made freely available by the Wallstreetmojo website, an educational resource aimed at accounting and finance students. The guides give introductions to different types of tax eg. VAT, Capital Gains Tax and Death Tax as well as practical aspects such as electronic filing and taxable income formula. Most guides refer to US law but aspects of UK, Australian, Indian and Singapore law are also covered. 

United States treaties and international agreements

Law Library of Congress website providing a digitised version of United States Treaties and Other International Agreements, compiled by Charles I. Bevans. Volumes 1-4 cover multilateral treaties between 1776-1949. Volumes 5-12 include the bilateral agreements for the same period, arranged alphabetically by country. Volume 13 is a general index. Each volume is available to download as a single pdf, or as individual pdfs for each treaty, which makes it convenient to browse.

Constitution Annotated

Website of the "Constitution Annotated" ("Constitution of the United States of America: Analysis and Interpretation"), a guide to interpretation of the US Constitution, provided by the Library of Congress. The site includes a searchable table of cases, Supreme Court decisions overruled by subsequent decisions, biographies of Supreme Court justices and other resources compiled by the Congressional Research Service. A complete, searchable copy of the Constitution is also given on the site.
