The Bar of Ireland

Website of the Irish Bar, the regulatory body for barristers practising in Ireland. The site has background information about the Bar, a directory of barristers and guidance on instructing counsel directly. It also covers standards, qualifications and the Irish court system. Commentary on selected pieces of legislation is available and there is a page of links to other Irish legal sites as well as a glossary and a list of Irish legal publishers. Parts of the site are restricted to members only.

Irish law discussion list

The Irish law discussion list is an email discussion list concerned with all areas of law relating to Ireland and Northern Ireland. The list is administered by Darius Whelan and hosted by the Faculty of Law at University College Cork on the Irish Law website. List archives go back to 1994 and can be browsed by date or searched by keyword, subject or author. There is guidance on using the list covering subscription, sending messages and technical and privacy issues. Other email lists concerned with Irish law are also mentioned on the site.

vLex Justis

Website of vLex Justis a subscription service providing online legal information including legislation, case law, administrative materials, books, journals and legal news. Content covers the United Kingdom, United States, international law and a wide range of other jurisdictions.

Citizens Information

Irish eGovernment website provided by the Citizens Information Board offering information on the social and civil rights of everyone living in Ireland. The site is aimed at the general public and endeavours to be user-friendly and readily accessible. Information is presented under various topical headings reflecting consumer interests, public services and life events: housing, health, birth, personal finance, culture and recreation, justice, etc. The justice section includes information on legal aid, going to court, being a witness, and jury service.

Iris Oifigiúil

The Iris Oifigiúil is the official Irish State gazette, published twice a week by the Stationery Office in Dublin. It announces public appointments in Ireland, ministerial proclamations, news and details of new Statutory Instruments and details of appointment of receivers to companies. The full text is available from January 2002 onwards, in PDF format. A search screen allows searching by keyword with options to refine by date and section of the Gazette.

Honorable Society of King's Inns

The Honorable Society of King's Inns is the body which governs entry to the barristers' profession in Ireland. The site features details of the King's Inns admissions requirements and of the educational courses offered: the Diploma in Legal Studies and the Degree of Barrister-at-Law. Links are available to prominent Irish and international legal resources. A short history of the institution is included, illustrated with pictures of the architecture and profiles of famous graduates.

Residential Institutions Redress Board

Website of the Residential Institutions Redress Board, an Irish statutory body which pays compensation to people who were abused as children in industrial schools, reformatories and other institutions subject to state regulation or inspection. The site has information about applying for redress, including forms and details of hearing procedures. A PDF copy of the Residential Institutions Redress Act, 2002 and relevant regulations is provided.

Decisions of the Irish Labour Court

Database of full text decisions of the Irish Labour Court (An Chuirt Oibreachais) an industrial relations tribunal which deals with disputes concerning industrial relations, minimum wage and equality issues in Ireland. Cases can be browsed by legislation or subject or searched by case number, parties or date (back to 2019). Topics include overtime, harassment, pensions and working time. The legislative type category groups cases by the type of legislation under which they have been handled including industrial relations, equality or working time legislation.

Labour Court

Website of the Irish Labour Court (An Chuirt Oibreachais) which acts as a court of last resort in the resolution of industrial relations disputes and hears appeals concerning employment rights cases where parties are dissatisfied with the Workplace Relations Commission's decision. This covers issues such as pay, equality and working time. The site has a guide to the work of the Court and provides its decisions, as well as court forms and procedural guidelines. The relevant legislation and annual reports are also available.

Cork Online Law Review

Website of the Cork Online Law Review (COLR) published annually by students at the Law Faculty of University College Cork in Ireland and made freely available online. The articles featured in the COLR are written by students and focus primarily, but not exclusively, on aspects of law in Ireland. Subjects covered in the 2010 issue include alternatives to traditional sentencing methods in South Africa, the Criminal Justice (Surveillance) Act 2009 and balancing conflicting interests during pregnancy. The articles are made available in full-text in PDF format.
