Government of Timor-Leste

Website of the East Timor Government, providing official publications, legislation, news and information about the government of East Timor, its history and the political system. The legislation section of the site provides selected recent laws and a few treaties; much of the legislation is available in English, but some of it is only in Portuguese. The legislation is divided into categories: the Constitution; business and investment; taxation; imports and exports; oil and gas; transport and communications and immigration. The site is available in English, Portuguese or Tetum versions.

World Law: East Timor

Section of WorldLII's World Law Index and Search service covering East Timor in South East Asia. A range of browse and search features provides access to materials relating to legislation, governmental and non-governmental organisations, treaties and international agreements, lawyers and journals. There are specific sections dealing with human rights, constitutional law, maritime law and refugees and asylum. A stored search will automatically query all of World Law for items about East Timor.

East Timor Law Journal

The East Timor Law Journal (ETLJ) published articles, East Timorese legislation and court decisions. The Journal started in 2004 and nothing new has been published since 2011. Legal materials published by ETLJ include Indonesian legislation relating to East Timor, laws of the United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor (UNTAET) and laws of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste enacted since independence in 2002.

Timor-Leste (East Timor)

This WorldLII site aims to make searchable from one location all databases relating to East Timor (Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste) on WorldLII (World legal Information Institute). The database includes regulations, directives and executive orders of the United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor (UNTAET). These materials can be searched or browsed and can be viewed in full-text in English.

UC Berkeley War Crimes Center

The UC Berkeley War Crimes Center was founded in 2000. It is involved in training judges and monitoring and archiving information relating to war crimes trials. Its website provides information on the purpose and activities of the Center. It includes news about ongong trials plus access to full-text documents relating to specific cases. Topics covered include: the Nuremberg 1945 trials, war crimes tribunals and trials relating to Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Indonesia and East Timor.

Judicial System Monitoring Committee

The Judicial System Monitoring Committee (JSMP) was set up in 2001 to improve the judicial and legislative system in Timor-Leste. Activities include court monitoring and the production of reports on the development of the judicial system. The site has news stories relating to Timor-Leste and an archive going back to 2001. There are full-text monitoring reports on the work of the Court of Appeal, the District Court in Dili and on specific cases. Other reports look at the state of the Timor-Leste justice sector, human rights in court administration and the right to appeal.
