Lebanese Constitutional Council

Website of the Lebanese Constitutional Council, the body which oversees the constitutionality of laws and rules on electoral disputes. Decisions of the Council are given on the site along with a guide to the work of the Constitutional Council and a copy of the Constitution. The site can be viewed in English, French and Arabic but most of the judgements aren’t given in English.

Arab Center for the Rule of Law and Integrity (ACRLI)

ACRLI is a non-governmental organization that was set up by a group of professional lawyers, judges and academics from Arab countries. It seeks to promote good governance and the rule of law in the Arab world. The Center holds events, carries out projects and publishes studies and reports. The ACRLI website provides a subscription-based database of legislation from 18 Arab jurisdictions, together with selected court decisions and references to books, journal articles and websites.

World Legal Materials from the Middle East

Collection of links to resources for the law of Middle Eastern jurisdictions, provided by the Cornell Legal Information Institute, Cornell University Law School. Covers 15 countries. Includes links to constitutions, government websites, some judicial sites, a few collections of laws and other materials relating to the law and legal systems of the Middle East. Most of the materials linked to are in English, but some are in Arabic and some in French.

NIPC Gulf

Blog about intellectual property and commercial law in the Gulf states, by English barrister and arbitrator Jane Lambert. Discusses recent cases and other legal developments, events and other matters. A Twitter feed is available.

Qatar Law Forum

Qatar Law Forum is an international conference hosted in Doha under the patronage of the Emir of Qatar. It aims to discuss the Rule of Law and related issues of international law and has been convened twice, in 2009 and 2012. The forum’s English website provides links to news articles relating to the forum and also provides documents on the discussions including newsletters, the text of some of the speeches and a discussion paper on the role of ethics in finance. The site also features YouTube clips of the conference and photographs.

SOAS Library

Website of the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) Library at the University of London, providing information about collections, services and facilities. Has a link to the Library Catalogue; a list of databases; details of e-books and e-journals; and the SOAS Archive Catalogue. There is a Subject Guide for the law collection, which includes a page of information by country or region covering Africa, China, Europe, International Law, Japan and Korea, the Middle East and Central Asia, South Asia, South-East Asia and the UK.

Council of Representatives of Bahrain

Official Website of Bahrain's parliament which consists of the House of Representatives and the Shura Council (consultative council). The site provides background and historical information about the Kingdom of Bahrain and its progress towards democracy. There is information on the members, structure and committees of the House of Representatives along with an outline of the parliamentary process. Annual reports and other official publications are given in English. Legislation, treaties and parliamentary questions are available in Arabic only.

 

League of Arab States

Website of the League of Arab States (Arab League) a regional organisation of Arabic speaking countries. The site has organisational information and full text official documents, including conventions, relating to the Arab League. There are news items and an outline of political issues concerning the Arab world. The site is available in Arabic with a small amount of information provided in English.
