African Legal Information Institute

The African Legal Information Institute (AfricanLII) makes available treaties, cases, resolutions, decisions, reports and other publications of African regional organisations. It also provides access to legislation and cases from 16 African countries, via its search facility. The home page has links to regional and national African websites. AfricanLII is a project of the Democratic Governance and Rights Unit (DGRU) at the University of Cape Town law faculty.

Government of Lesotho

This is the official website of the African kingdom of Lesotho. It provides information on the structure and function of government in the region and its recent activities. It includes access to the full text of the Constitution, lists of cabinet members and a directory of government websites including links to all the main departments and ministries. Also available are recent government press releases and political speeches.

World Law: Lesotho

Part of WorldLII's Countries service covering Lesotho. The site offers browse sections containing links to government, legislation, introductions to lesotho law and legal education sites. A stored search facility will automatically search for materials relating to Lesotho on all of WorldLII. WorldLII was created and is being developed by the Australasian Legal Information Institute (AustLII) in the Faculty of Law at the University of Technology, Sydney.

Ministry of Justice, Human Rights and Correctional Service

Official website of the Lesotho Ministry of Justice, the body with responsibility for the judiciary, prisons, legal aid, probation and human rights in Lesotho. The site has information about the different departments within the Ministry of Justice including the Legal Aid Unit, Human Rights Unit and the Probation Unit. There are links to judgements of the High Court and the Court of Appeal on Saflii (South African Legal Information Institute)

The legislation dates from 1981 to 2000 and can be viewed using the system's comprehensive search facility, act name search or alphabetical browse list. Full text documents are presented in PDF. The information has been provided by the Lesotho government and a link is given to their Website. The Commonwealth Legal Information Institute (CommonLII) is a cooperative legal information initiative led by AustLII (the Australasian Legal Information Institute) providing access to freely available legal materials from all Commonwealth countries. CommonLII contains over 400 databases providing case law, legislation, treaties and law reform reports from more than 50 Commonwealth and common law countries and territories.

Forced evictions and disability rights in Africa

Online article looking at forced evictions and disability rights in Africa written by Buhle Angelo Dube who is a lecturer at the University of Swaziland's Law Department. The article was published in 2008 (and updated in 2023 by Sibusiso Nhlabatsi) on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School Program at the New York University School of Law. The first section explains the background to forced evictions and their impact in Africa and focuses on this practice in Ghana, Swaziland and Botswana.

Southern Africa Litigation Centre

The Southern Africa Litigation Centre began as  a joint initiative between the International Bar Association (IBA) and the Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa (OSISA). It works to foster human rights, democracy, the rule of law and access to justice in the region by means of advocacy, litigation, training and capacity building. The Centre's website has information about its cases, together with reports, briefings, statements, articles and news. The content can be browsed by topic or by country.
