Truth Commission Digital Collection

The Truth Commission Digital Collection forms part of the Margarita S. Studemeister Digital Library in International Conflict Management at the United States Institute of Peace. There are profiles of truth commissions and commissions of inquiry set up in different countries with background information, details of members, links to establishing documents and each commission's final reports and findings. Sources of information for each profile are also given.

Constitution of Haiti

The 1987 Constitution of the Republic of Haiti made freely available on the Political Database of the Americas, hosted by Georgetown University in the United States. This website can be viewed in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese. A full text version of the Constitution of 1987 is provided in both English and French. The Constitution contains sections on the rights and duties of citizens, in addition to the judicial, legislative and executive branches of the government.

USIP in Haiti

This web page provides information on the work being carried out by the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) in Haiti. The USIP is an independent organisation whose aim is to “increase the nation's capacity to manage international conflict without violence”. USIP provides conflict resolution training and assistance with legal reform. This section of the USIP website has information on the organisation’s work in Haiti including reports, articles and factsheets. Topics covered in the publications include provision of justice, peacebuilding and the rule of law.

Haitian Law Digital Collection

The Haitian Law Digital Collection provides access to digitised versions of Haitian legal documents. The collection forms part of the Digital Library of the Caribbean a “cooperative digital library for resources from and about the Caribbean and circum-Caribbean” administered by Florida International University in partnership with the University of the Virgin Islands and the University of Florida. The site currently offers documents from the mid nineteenth century through to 2007 including legislation, government publications and periodicals.

Link collections include materials relating to the Courts, Government and Legislation with specific subject sections dealing with Elections and Intellectual Property. A stored search will automatically query all of WorldLII for items about Haiti. The WorldLII service is run from the Australasian Legal Information Institute (AustLII).

Caribbean Court of Justice

The Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) is a regional judicial tribunal established in 2001. It replaced the Privy Council as the final court of appeal for member states of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in 2005. The court's website provides its judgments from 2005 onwards, together with legislation, court rules, papers and articles. There is also background information about the CCJ and its jurisdiction and its judges.

Embassy of the Republic of Haiti in Washington DC

This is the official website of the Haitian Embassy in the United States. It provides access to basic factual information about the economy, business opportunities, culture and society of Haiti. It includes access to press releases from the Haitian government plus links to Haitian government Websites. The press releases contain information on elections, human rights and violence in the region. A selection of legal materials are provided on the site including a copy of the 1987 Constitution (in French and English) and a copy of the country's Electoral Law (in French).

Juriste Haitien

The website Juriste Haitien is an online guide to the Haitian legal system and legal education in Haiti. It offers descriptions of the laws and constitution governing Haiti, information about the judicial system and the bar and an outline of the law courses offered by the University of the State of Haiti. There is a glossary of legal terms and the site also provides links to other French-language legal websites. The site is all in French.

Institute for Justice and Democracy in Haiti

Website of the Institute for Justice and Democracy in Haiti (IJDH) an organisation providing information on human rights in Haiti, pursuing legal cases and working with other human rights groups in Haiti and abroad. The site has organisational information, news items relating to the work of the IJDH and details of staff and the Board of Directors. There is information on IJDH campaigns and links to online videos dealing with human rights issues in Haiti.

Researching Haitian law

Online guide to researching the law and legal materials of Haiti written by Marisol Florén-Romero who is the International Reference Librarian at Florida International University (FIU), College of Law Library. The article was published in 2008 on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School at the New York University School of Law. There is background and historical information to Haiti and outlines of the governmental and legal systems.
