Fair Trials

Fair Trials is an NGO which campaigns for fairness, equality and justice including the right to a fair trial in Europe, Latin America, the UK and the US. The site outlines Fair Trials’ campaigns which include protecting the rights of accused people, the right to counsel, use of pre-trial detention and safeguards for plea bargaining. Free resources on the site include publications, case studies, information, toolkits and legal news which can be searched by issue, region or country. 

Legal Education Foundation

Website of the Legal Education Foundation, an independent grant-making body which provides funding to organisations undertaking charitable work focusing on legal education. The site has guidance on applying for grants, details of the funding programmes and information on projects that have been funded in the past.

Charity Commission for England and Wales

The website for the Charity Commission of England and Wales contains full information on how to set up and run a charity, including legal and financial guidance. It has a searchable database of all registered charities, and displays financial records and overviews of each charity. The site also contains details of enquiries and cases brought against registered charities, as well as reports, consultation documents and other publications.

Tax and Chancery (Upper Tribunal)

The Upper Tribunal (Tax and Chancery Chamber) helps those who are involved in or want to appeal against decisions made by the First-tier tribunal in tax or Charity cases, as well as people who want to refer matters relating to certain decisions made by the Financial Services Authority and the Pensions Regulator. This section of the Justice website includes forms and guidance, available in PDF, links to procedural rules and a link to the Tribunals Judiciary website, where Tax and Chancery (Upper Tribunal) decisions are available to search from April 2003 onwards.

Charity Law Unit

Web pages of the Charity Law Unit at the School of Law, University of Liverpool. The Unit was established in 1994 to develop research and teaching on charity law in the UK. The site presents details of its research, conferences, courses, seminars and teaching. Lists of recent publications, conference papers, seminar presentations and recent theses are available; a few of these have links to the full text.

International Journal of Not-for-Profit Law

The International Journal of Not-for-Profit Law (IJNL) is published quarterly by the International Center for Not-For-Profit Law (ICNL). The IJNL was first published in 1998 and all issues are available free on its website. The journal is aimed at lawyers, scholars, donors, and government officials focusing on the legal aspects of non-governmental organisations in different parts of the world.

Alliance for Justice

Website of Alliance for Justice (AFJ) an umbrella group for United States organisations working to "advance the cause of justice for all Americans, strengthen the public interest community's ability to influence public policy, and foster the next generation of advocates." The AFJ raises public awareness on policy issues by publishing policy alerts, reports and fact sheets provided on the site along with detailed profiles of judges nominated to the federal bench.

Institute of Legacy Management

The Institute of Legacy Management (ILM) is an organisation promoting professional standards in legacy administration whose membership includes charity legacy officers, solicitors and other legal professionals. The ILM provides consultancy, training and support services. The website gives information about the Institute and a bi-monthly newsletter providing legacy administration news.

Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator

Website of the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR), an independent registrar and regulator responsible for the regulation of charities in Scotland, and part of the Scottish Administration. . The Scottish Charity Register can be searched by charity name, number or address. A framework document provides further information on the OSCR 's status, management and financial arrangements and this can be viewed in PDF on the site. There is also a selection of FAQs and a page of relevant Web links.

CharityLaw.ca

The CharityLaw.ca website is produced by Canadian law firm Carters Professional Corporation. The site provides legal information aimed at charities and not-for-profit organisations based in Canada and other countries. The site has details of the firm's services and expertise and provides free access to a range of in-house publications (bulletins, articles and seminar materials) which can be downloaded from the site in PDF.
