Arab Labor Organization

The Arab Labor Organization (ALO) is a specialised organisation operating within the scope of the League of Arab States and representing all Arab countries. The ALO develops labour standards setting out basic principles and rights at work drawn up by governments, employers and workers in member states. These legal instruments are either conventions which are legally binding on the states which have ratified them or recommendations which are guidance only – all are available on the site in full text.

World Legal Materials from the Middle East

Collection of links to resources for the law of Middle Eastern jurisdictions, provided by the Cornell Legal Information Institute, Cornell University Law School. Covers 15 countries. Includes links to constitutions, government websites, some judicial sites, a few collections of laws and other materials relating to the law and legal systems of the Middle East. Most of the materials linked to are in English, but some are in Arabic and some in French.

Central Bank of Bahrain

The website of the Central Bank of Bahrain, which has a section on the relevant laws, under Regulatory Functions. Under Laws and Regulations there is a quick search box and an option to search by rule number. The full texts of various laws are available in html. The general webpage also gives information about the Central Bank, the monetary policy, banking operations, publications and data, consumer information and the financial sector. The Arabic version of the website is currently under construction.

Kingdom of Bahrain

This is the official website of the government of Bahrain. It provides links to all the ministries and government agencies on the web. Also accessible is recent news and basic statistics on health, the economy, budgets, elections and censuses in the region. Other features of the site include the full text of the constitution and information about the monarchy and members of the ruling royal family. The site can be viewed in Arabic and English.

World Law: Bahrain

Section of WorldLII's Countries Search service covering Bahrain. The site offers browse and search facilities to trace internet resources for Bahrain highlighting Government and Parliament sites along with subject sections for Banking, Intellectual Property and Customs. A stored search will query all of WorldLII for materials relating to Bahrain. WorldLII was created and is being developed by the Australasian Legal Information Institute in the Faculty of Law at the University of Technology, Sydney.

Council of Representatives of Bahrain

Official Website of Bahrain's parliament which consists of the House of Representatives and the Shura Council (consultative council). The site provides background and historical information about the Kingdom of Bahrain and its progress towards democracy. There is information on the members, structure and committees of the House of Representatives along with an outline of the parliamentary process. Annual reports and other official publications are given in English. Legislation, treaties and parliamentary questions are available in Arabic only.

 

Constitution of Bahrain

This site contains the full-text of the 2002 Bahrain Constitution which is made freely available in English by International Constitutional Law (ICL) at the University of Bern in Switzerland. The document has sections on the state, fundamental constituents of society, public rights and duties and the system of government which covers the Amir, legislative power, executive power and judicial power. There is a link to the Bahrain government website and background notes to the history and Constitution of Bahrain.

Islamic Family Law Project

The Islamic Family Law Project website is based at Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia. The Project surveyed the application of Islamic family law in a selection of countries and explored the possibilities for reform. A regional breakdown of Islamic countries around the world is given on the site, with a profile of each region consisting of historical and religious background, family issues, legal practices and institutions and a list of references.

Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf

Website of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (Gulf Cooperation Council) a trade organisation involving the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait. The site provides organisational and background information about the GCC along with details of work achieved in the areas of legal, security, political and military cooperation between its members. The digital library provides access to agreements and regulations of the GCC covering economics, environment, law and patents.
