Finding the Law of the Micro-States and Small Jurisdictions of Europe

Online guide, written by Andrew Grossman who is a retired U.S. Foreign Service Officer, to finding sources of primary and secondary law for “small jurisdictions” of Europe -defined as “political entities having a population under one million persons”. The guide was published in 2024 on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School Program at the New York University School of Law. The author gives links to academic works on micro-states and to law libraries that hold printed materials on these jurisdictions.

Office of the State Advocate

Website of the Office of the State Advocate, an agency of the Maltese government, which acts as principal advisor to Government in matters of law and legal opinion. There is information on the role of the State Advocate, profiles of the legal officers and news items. The site can be viewed in English and Maltese. 

Malta Legislation

Website providing free access to all Malta laws, including consolidated subsidiary legislation, compiled by the Office of the State Advocate. The consolidated legislation can be browsed by chapter or searched by keyword or title. The full text is presented in PDF in Maltese. Recent acts are found in the Publications section of the site along with legal notices, bye-laws and parliamentary bills. Video guides are provided to assist with searching along with a selection of FAQs. The site can be viewed in English and Maltese. 

Sentenzi Online

Sentenzi Online is a service hosted by the Maltese Ministry for Justice and Home Affairs offering a collection of judgements of the Maltese Courts from 1944 onwards. The collection is arranged in the following categories: selected judgements from 1944 onwards; all judgements from 2001; judgements from the last year and from the last fifteen days. Cases can be searched by date, court, judge, parties or keywords and can be viewed in summary or full-text (PDF) form although not all of the cases from 1944 to 2000 are available in full.

A selection of articles detailing the history and development of the Maltese judicial system can be viewed in PDF. There is information on the court system providing details of the functions of the Inferior and Superior courts including the Constitutional Court, Court of Appeal, Civil Court, Criminal Court and the courts in Gozo.
