Lebanese Constitutional Council

Website of the Lebanese Constitutional Council, the body which oversees the constitutionality of laws and rules on electoral disputes. Decisions of the Council are given on the site along with a guide to the work of the Constitutional Council and a copy of the Constitution. The site can be viewed in English, French and Arabic but most of the judgements aren’t given in English.

The guide was published in 2022 on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School Program at the New York University School of Law. For each jurisdiction the author looks at whether foreigners can purchase real estate, which taxes are applied and gives links to relevant legislation.

Special Tribunal for Lebanon: an introduction and research guide

Online research guide to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon written by Martin Wählisch and updated by Lara Eid Jreissati who is an international lawyer specialising in International Criminal Law, Humanitarian Law and Human Rights Law. The guide was published in 2012 (and updated in 2022) on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School at the New York University School of Law. The author provides history and background to events leading to the establishment of the Tribunal.

Lebanese Ministry of Justice

This is the official website of the Lebanese Ministry of Justice. Versions are available in English, French and Arabic. The site’s stated aim is to provide a simplified explanation of Lebanon’s legal system for Lebanese citizens and foreigners. It provides a detailed description of the organisation of the Ministry itself, the organisation of the Courts, the legal process, and the rules governing law officers. It also describes the Ministry’s modernising projects.

The Palestinian Refugee ResearchNet is a non- partisan project devoted to the dissemination of ideas and scholarly information on the Palestinian refugee issue in the broader context of the Middle East peace process. The Palestinian Refugee ResearchNet is maintained by the Inter-University Consortium for Arab Studies (Montreal), with the support of the Faculty of Arts Computing Lab, McGill University, and the International Development Research Centre in Canada. Contains research papers, documents, and information on NGO and research projects.

Constitution of Lebanon

This site contains the full-text of the Lebanon Constitution which is made freely available in English by International Constitutional Law (ICL) at the University of Bern in Switzerland. The Constitution was adopted in 1926 and this version includes the amendments made in 1990. The Constitution has chapters dealing with the state and its territories, the rights and duties of the citizen, legislative power, executive power, the Prime Minister, the Council of Ministers, the Supreme Council and finances.

Lebanese legal system and research

Online guide to researching the Lebanese legal system written by Firas El Samad who is a Partner at the Egyptian law firm Shalakany. The guide was published in 2008 (and updated in 2019) on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School at the New York University School of Law. The author provides background information to Lebanon and to the Lebanese legal system. There is a section on the Constitution and on the roles and responsibilities of the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government.
