Finding the Law of the Micro-States and Small Jurisdictions of Europe

Online guide, written by Andrew Grossman who is a retired U.S. Foreign Service Officer, to finding sources of primary and secondary law for “small jurisdictions” of Europe -defined as “political entities having a population under one million persons”. The guide was published in 2024 on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School Program at the New York University School of Law. The author gives links to academic works on micro-states and to law libraries that hold printed materials on these jurisdictions.

Takeover Panel

The Takeover Panel (or Panel on Takeovers and Mergers) regulates takeovers and mergers in the UK, the Channel Islands and Isle of Man. Its website includes information on the regulatory role of the Panel, the text of City Code on Takeovers and Mergers and related instruments, governing rules, practice statements, forms and checklists. It also has details of current and closed consultations.

Isle of Man Legislation

The official Isle of Man legislation websit,e providing free, open access to all current Acts of Tynwald consolidated to show all amendments. Each of the current acts shows the act consolidated to September 2012. The site offers browse and search facilties and features: current acts presented alphabetically or by subject, with a point in time function allowing previous versions of acts to be viewed; a table of changes made to acts showing the source of amendments and the date they came into effect; all acts published “as enacted” since 2001; all acts repealed since September 2012.

Nursing and Midwifery Council

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is the regulator for nurses and midwives in the UK, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. Its website provides a searchable register of nurses and midwives. There is detailed information about fitness to practise hearings, including the outcomes of the most recent four months’ hearings and lists of forthcoming hearings; the Hearings page also has statistics going back to 2000/01. Tynwald

Tynwald is the Isle of Man parliament. Its website provides publications such as Hansard (1997/98 onwards), recent bills, committee reports (2000/01 onwards) and order papers (1997/98 onwards). Information is available about the progress of current bills, parliamentary procedure and the history of Tynwald. The site also includes press releases and lists past and present Members of Tynwald.

MannBenham

The website of this Isle of Man law firm provides a collection of legal and business guides relating to the jurisdiction. The areas of law covered include taxation, trusts, companies and conveyancing.

Ombudsman Association

The Ombudsman Association is a membership organisation for ombudsmen from the UK, Ireland, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man and Britain's overseas territories. The website includes lists of the voting and associate members of the Association. They cover a wide range of topics such as Energy, Housing, Legal Services, Prisons and Probation, and Parliamentary Standards. Entries give a brief note of responsibilities with contact addresses, phone and fax numbers, and email and website addresses.

World Law: Isle of Man

Section of WorldLII's Countries service covering the Isle of Man. The site offers browse and search facilities to trace Internet resources for the Isle of Man including government, legislation, case law and cyberspace. A stored search will automatically search for materials relating to the Isle of Man on all of the WorldLII catalog or databases. This section of WorldLII was developed from work initiated by Australasian Legal Information Institute (AustLII).

Isle of Man Government

Official website for the government of the Isle of Man. It provides official information and guidance from the various government departments, arranged by subject. There are links to government consultations and to a database of company information. The site is primarily designed for members of the public.
