English version of the Swedish Parliament’s ‘Documents and laws’ page. Includes translations of the fundamental laws - the Instrument of Government, the Act of Succession, the Freedom of the Press Act and the Fundamental Law on Freedom of Expression – and a translation of the Parliament Act. Also provides a guide to the Swiss constitution and translations of parliamentary reports (some in summary form). The page gives basic information in English about various parliamentary procedures as well, together with links to the relevant parliamentary documents (which are in Swedish).

Peter Forskaal: Thoughts on Civil Liberty

Website dedicated to and celebrating Peter Forsskål's influential treatise Tankar om borgerliga friheten (Thoughts on Civil Liberty) published in Sweden in 1792. Forsskal's work contributed to access to information and the abolition of prior censorship which was established in 1766 by law in Sweden. The site gives information about the history of the work, access to the original pamphlet text and in English translation and in several other languages. Details of events related to freedom of information, civil liberties and the legacy of Peter Forskaal are provided.

Online legal information in Denmark, Norway and Sweden

A comprehensive guide tracing the development of online legal databases in the Scandinavian countries, Denmark, Norway and Sweden. The guide has been written by Suzanne Thorpe, Associate Director for Faculty, Research and Instructional services at the University of Minnesota Law Library. The author gives background information to the legal system, details of legal databases and annotated links to online legal information for each country. The guide is in English with references to items in English and Danish, Norwegian and Swedish.

Constitution of Sweden

English-language versions of the fundamental constitutional laws of Sweden, as presented on the website of the Riksdag, the Swedish Parliament. The constitutional documents presented are the Instrument of Government, the Act of Succession, the Freedom of the Press Act, Fundamental Law on Freedom of Expression, and the Riksdag Act. The process of amending the fundamental laws of Sweden is also outlined.

Sveriges Riksdag

Website of the Swedish parliament, which has some information in English, including translations of selected laws. Other English-language content includes information about the political parties and electoral system, descriptions of the role of women in Swedish politics and information about the relationship of Sweden with the EU. More detailed information is accessible in Swedish only; this includes parliamentary debates, bills going through the parliament, committee reports and the online catalogue of the parliamentary library.

Scandinavian Studies in Law

Free online version of 'Scandinavian Studies in Law', a series of books published by the Stockholm Institute for Scandinavian Law at Stockholm University. The series covers the law of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden and presents articles by Scandinavian lawyers and legal scholars translated into English. Each volume focuses on a particular legal topic. All but the last few volumes can be accessed for free using the 'Sc.St.L. Database'. The  Scandinavian Studies in Law website also includes a list of abbreviations used in the series, and a help page.
