Attorney General's Office

Website of the Attorney General's Office. The Attorney General and Solicitor General are the chief legal advisers to the government and deal with questions of law arising on government bills and with issues of legal policy. The site has information about all areas of the Attorney General's work, details of Freedom of Information requests and copies of the Attorney General's Guidelines on the law relating to prosecutions. There are also press releases, recent speeches of the Law Officers and a page of links to other government law sites.

Howard Journal of Criminal Justice, The

The Howard Journal of Criminal Justice is published by Wiley (formerly by Blackwells) and is concerned with "all major aspects of the criminal justice process, penal policy and crime prevention". It is an interdisciplinary journal "combining articles with comments and reviews, providing a thorough coverage of both the theory and practice of criminal justice and the study of crime and criminals. Each issue includes a Penal Policy File summarising the latest developments in criminal justice policy."

Ministry of Law and Justice, India

Official Website for the Government of India's Ministry of Law and Justice. The site explains the work of the Ministry. The section on the Department of Legal Affairs describes the organisational set-up and functions of the Department. The Department of Justice section provides information about the Supreme Court, High Courts and Family Court. The Legislative Department web pages provide information about the Constitution of India, and a Chronological table of acts enacted from 1834 onwards with history of subsequent amendments.

Council on Governmental Ethics Laws

The Council on Governmental Ethics Laws (COGEL) is a US based organisation which was established in 1974 to promote good practise and high standards in government. Its website provides information on the history, purpose and current events of the organisation. The latter includes details of projects relating to governmental ethics, political lobbying, conduct of elections and campaign finance. The site also contains a members only area which provides access to more detailed documentation and discussion forums.

Statute Law Review

The Statute Law Review (online ISSN: 1464-3863) began in 1980 and is published by Oxford University Press in association with the Statute Law Society. The Review aims to further the study of legislative drafting, statutory interpretation, and the process of parliamentary scrutiny around the world. It is intended for lawyers in both private practice and public service, and academics with an interest in public law, public administration and political science.

Criminal Justice System

Section of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) website covering the criminal justice system in England and Wales. Intended for the general public, the pages describe the stages of a criminal case from the reporting of a crime to the court verdict, explain how the CPS decides whether or not to prosecute, and give an overview of other official bodies and organisations working in the field of criminal justice.

Committee on the Administration of Justice

The Committee on the Administration of Justice (CAJ) was established in 1981 and seeks to maintain high standards in the policing and administration of justice in Northern Ireland and to ensure that it complies with international human rights law. The website provides details on the purpose and activities of the organisation. It includes annual reports from 1995 onwards, lists of publications and recent press releases and newsletters produced.

Employment Appeal Tribunal

The Employment Appeal Tribunal (EAT) is the senior court in England and Wales which deals with appeals from decisions of the Employment Tribunals. Its website provides information on the purpose, operation and current work of the tribunal. This includes information on procedure, schedules of forthcoming works and a searchable database of decisions in cases from 1999 onwards. Typical areas dealt with include: unfair dismissal cases, disputes over contacts of employment and sex discrimination at work.
