Law Reform Commission

The role of the Mauritian Law Reform Commission (LRC) is to keep the law of Mauritius under review and to make recommendations for reform. LRC reports are available to download from the website with recent reports covering anonymity of individuals in court judgements and discriminatory laws against women in Mauritius. Annual reports, newsletters and press releases are also given. 

Mauritius Bar Association

Website of the Mauritius Bar Association (MBA) whose role is to represent the interests of barristers and improve the administration of justice in Mauritius. A directory of members can be searched or browsed by name. A list of current members of the Bar Council , which manages the affairs of the MBA , is also given on the site. 

Mauritius National Assembly

Official website of the Mauritian National Assembly which, together with the President, forms the Parliament of Mauritius. The site has profiles of MPs and the Speaker along with a copy of the Constitution and legislation back to 2009 which can be viewed in full. Other parliamentary proceedings including order papers, Hansard, parliamentary questions and details of committees are also given. 

Constitution of Mauritius

Electronic copy of the 1968 Mauritian Constitution, amended up to 2016, made freely available online by the Comparative Constitutions Project at the University of Texas at Austin. The Constitution can be accessed in a range of formats including PDF and HTML. There are chapters covering fundamental rights, the role of the president, parliament, the judicature, the Rodrigues Regional Assembly and other public bodies. 

Attorney General’s Office of Mauritius

The Attorney General's Office website has information about the role of the Attorney General, services provided and the functions of other office holders within the department. Ethics codes for barristers and attorneys working in Mauritius are given along with links to other Mauritian legal websites. Laws of Mauritius can be viewed including the Constitution, acts revised to 2017 and recent acts as passed. Recent bills are also available. 

The Mauritian Legal System and Research

Online article looking at the law and legal materials of Mauritius written by Professor Rajendra Parsad Gunputh who is Chair of International Comparative Law and Dean of the Faculty of Law and Management at the University of Mauritius. The article was published in 2022 on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School Program at the New York University School of Law. The author gives background information to the Mauritian legal system and an introduction to the sources of law including the Constitution and legal codes.

Employment Relations Tribunal

Official website of the Employment Relations Tribunal of the Republic of Mauritius. This is a quasi-judicial body which hears industrial disputes and delivers awards. It was created following a merger between the Permanent Arbitration Tribunal and the Civil Service Arbitration Tribunal in February 2009. The site gives history and background information to the Tribunal and details of its members. Details of awards made by the Tribunal can be viewed on the site in PDF or Word for each year from 1995 onwards.

Supreme Court of Mauritius

The Website of the Supreme Court of Mauritius provides a history of the legal system in Mauritius and an outline of the court system. There are contact details for Mauritian lawyers and weekly cause lists for the various courts. Judgments are made freely available from a number of Mauritian courts- the Court of Rodrigues, the Industrial Court, the Intermediate court and the district courts. Supreme Court decisions are available on subscription. Recent legislation (from 2008 onwards) can be viewed on the site in full text.

Commonwealth Legal Information Institute

The Commonwealth Legal Information Institute (CommonLII) is a cooperative legal information initiative led by AustLII (the Australasian Legal Information Institute) providing access to freely available legal materials from all Commonwealth countries. CommonLII contains over 400 databases providing case law, legislation, treaties and law reform reports from more than 50 Commonwealth and common law countries and territories.
