Researching the Armenian Legal System

Online guide to finding Armenian legal information written by Sergey Arakelyan who is Scientific Secretary of the Yerevan State University and Anna Margaryan who is Director of the Law Library at the Yerevan State University. The guide was published in 2006 (and updated by Lyudvik Davtyan and Pavlik Poladyanon in 2022) on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School at the New York University School of Law.

Armenian legislation

Collection of full text laws of Armenia made freely available on the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia website. The laws can be browsed alphabetically or by subject and are provided in full text in English. Subject areas covered on the site include civil and criminal legislation, taxation, banking and finance, housing, family law, health care, social security, foreign policy and international relations law. A copy of the Constitution is included on the site along with the Civil Code and the Criminal Code.

Constitutional Court of the Republic of Armenia

Official website of the Constitutional Court of Armenia. The site includes the full text of the Armenian Constitution and the Law of the Republic of Armenia on the Constitutional Court. There is a list of Court members and references are given to decisions from 1996 onwards. A few decisions can be viewed in full. There is an e-library of legal materials, including reports, articles and documents, provided on the site in Russian, Armenian and French. A small number of documents can be viewed in English. The site can be viewed in Russian, English and Armenian.

Constitution of Armenia

This site contains the full-text of the Constitution adopted in 1995 by the Republic of Armenia which is made freely available in English by International Constitutional Law (ICL) at the University of Bern in Switzerland. The document covers human and civil rights and freedoms, the role and function of the President, the National Assembly, the Government, judiciary and local government. The site provides brief historical and background information to the Constitution along with other legal materials. There is also a link to the website of the Constitutional Court.

Armenian National Institute

The Armenian National Institute is a US-based organisation committed to affirmation of and research into the Armenian genocide, which occurred during the First World War. Its website provides a large collection of resources, including a timeline; photographic images; contemporary press coverage; full-text treaties, reports and other documents; the indictment and verdict of the Turkish Military Tribunal of 1919; and bibliographies. The site also offers an educational resources section for teachers.

National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia

This is the official website of the Armenian Parliament. It provides access to information on the history and current operation of the Parliament. The English language version of the site contains parliamentary news, plus the text of the constitution and rules of procedure. There are profiles of members and full text legislation can be downloaded in PDF. Laws can searched by keyword and browsed alphabetically or by subject. The site can be viewed in English, Russian and Armenian.
